Black wheels - am I wrong?

Otherwise black wheel are a fad and a dreadful aesthetic mistake in the same vein as the 3 spoke alloy wheel in the late 80's early 90's (I recognise that Saab and Citroen did 3 spoke well...I'm looking at the fashionable after market trend..)
I liked the Fiesta RS Turbo's 3 spokes. They looks fantastic on my colour coded black, lowered Mk2 XR2I agree that a lot of black wheels are losing their appeal, there are still some nice ones out there though.
I just brought a Focus ST-Line and specced the 18" ST wheels which came in a dark, smokey, metallic, gunmetal grey kind of colour, looks much better than any black wheel would with the dark red paint and tinted rear privacy glass.

I grew up in the age of Sierras and Cavaliers which mostly came with wheel trims and which tended to lose them exposing the black wheel below.
To me, black wheels remind me of poorly maintained crap old cars.
On occasion they can work. There's a black XF near me with black wheels. The outer rims are silver. They just give the wheel a bit of definition and look great.
Permission to revise my opinion please. To me, black wheels remind me of poorly maintained crap old cars.

I have a silver wheeled metallic gold/brown Discovery Sport HSE I think it looks great. Each to their own and all that. Being a Land Rover it's back with the dealer for a few days.
The temporary replacement is a Discovery Sport HSE "Black."
Santorini black metallic paint, black leather inside, black trim, radiator, side vents and back windows. It also has 20inch wheels in gloss black.
It looks absolutely stunning!
A friend of mine has that car....and I have to agree a polished full on black SUV like that is just mean.
Perhaps I should revise my view too.
Mean, utilitarian or a car that has something of the night about it, evil...like an Aventoador or Murcie, perhaps even an angry muscle car....can pull it off if they're fastiduously cleaned. (Brera has an angry face..)
Pretty, gorgeous, beautiful or just plain soft and mundane cars that try and emulate it....no.
Or any of the above that try and 'contrast' a bright body with invisible black wheels.
Full on mean 'murdered'
or it dosn't work.

A well designed wheel can enhance a car...wheel have a favourite design... which all becomes pointless if you can't distinguish it from the tyre or black space in the arches.
It's a truly god awful idea which I hope will soon die.
So many good points but this is the best. It's a truly god awful idea which I hope will soon die.
