Heavily regret selling two cars:

2006 mx5 2.0 sport, sold for £3000 at 102k miles to get something a little more sensible (ed30 golf), should've kept it as a second car. It was painful to watch it drive away with its stupidly loud exhaust droning. On the plus side there's so many of them around that a replacement would be easy to find.

2009 Audi B8 S4, sold as I thought it was costing too much to run for a daily. Replaced with a 420d that lasted 6 weeks before being replaced by my current mk7 gti. On balance I think I'd still have the S4.

The worst case I had of this was back in 2003.

I traded in my Seicento Schumacher and instantly regretted it. Called the dealer the following morning and it was already sold.

Fast forward to 2016 and after many years of looking for WP51 NGY or another unmolested example, I extended my search and bought a mint, low mile, original Abarth version last May.

Love it. Hardly use it but it's so much fun, even with just 54hp smile

Used it today for the first time in 3 months.

Very much regret part exchanging my very nice Griff 500 for a 4.2 Cerbera, then 18 months later having to sell the Cerbera. Should have kept the Griff!

Back on topic, my Defender 110 is the only car that I wish I'd hung onto:





Bought late 2013 as a company vehicles, just months before HMRC switched the tax classification so it was no longer commercial.

Neither, Sarah is the current and a keeper. This is an ex I am glad is an ex!

Back in 2005 seeing my beautiful Z4 being driven away and then the remorse being compounded by the fact I had to immediately jump into our newly acquired Renault Megane Scenic to go purchase lanolin cream and nappies.

Second occasion was only 2 years after buying my dream car, a mint Ferrari 355 GTS, just like the one on the front cover of Jeremy Clarkson's Hot 100 that I'd longed for since being a boy. Then one day a dealer (who knew I had the car) phoned out of the blue to make me an offer, the phone call coincided with me just being out of work and I panicked! I sold the car I loved frown

I knew I was making a mistake... Of course this was again compounded when only 6months later I saw my car entered on the concours green at Stapleford Mannor - I felt sick for weeks after that. Also the fact that values had nearly doubled in that short period of time didn't help mad

I owned a Valencia (burnt metallic) Orange BMW 1M that I saved and hunted for over 12 months. I loved it for 3 years, drove it every day. When I had our first child I fought and fought to get the baby seat in the back and realised that a coupe is incompatible with a rear facing seat. Grudgingly I traded in (for an M3 ??) and the dealer said "not much demand for these manuals" when negotiating the trade in. Anyway, I got a great price in the end and he'd moved it on within the week!

I haven't seen it since but every time I see another VO 1M I find myself transfixed!

Too true. I once tried trading in a Focus ST3, blue, 3 door, leather. 'It's the wrong colour'. Shut up you tt, it's possibly the most desirable trim finish around!

In the 90s I had a really nice bog-standard black Mk2 RS2000 Custom, and I sold it on a whim to a mate for about 2K who then made it even better. I later saw it at a couple of shows and it really tugged at the old strings. I couldn´t justify the expense of another now.

Just sold my 2011 grey BMW M-sport coupe (Auto) for a 2015 rebel blue Volvo V40 R-design D2 (manual)

Anyway......

The car I was most sad to see was my Black Toyota MR-2 VVT-i 1.8 with hardtop.
It was a wonderful thing to drive and the only convertible I have ever owned.
The 1.8 surprised me and the car felt so light..

I traded it in for what I thought would have been my dream car a Black Toyota Supra - although I loved the car it had problems and I never really got to enjoy it as much as the MR-2. I have wonderful memories driving the MR-2
As soon as the sun was out I'd polish the MR-2 and drop the roof and take it for a spin just because it was sunny.

I hope I can own a convertible again one day, when is the new MR-2 coming out.......

I can see the attraction with the MR2. A mate is a long term Lotus Elise owner. Had a Mk1 and then a Mk2. He drove them, roof off, as and whenever it was at all possible.

He decided to treat himself (he could well afford it) to a McLaren 675 spider. He likes the McLaren a lot, but does not enjoy driving it as much as the Elise. Fortunately, he's kept the Mk2 Elise, but it does go to show how easy it would be for a seemingly logical 'upgrade' to not tick all the boxers.

That's the thing, mid engine stripped back to basics sports car - so much fun to drive. When and If I get a double garage one is going in there to come out on sunny days lol - might have to get married to my g/f of 7 years before she approves... I've driven an exige and that thing can corner but you can't take the roof off! Always fancied a Honda S2000, my mate had one and crashed it, but I still like them.

Think I'm about be a victim...

Bought a Cavalier back in 2002, drove the doors off it then took it off the road for a 'freshen up' and that was 9 years ago.

Things change, life changed and now faced with a fairly hefty bill to get to it restored and with little time to do it myself, plus it being a car that really I have no place for in my life now and thus it'd just become a chore having in parked the garage getting little use... it's time to move it on.

The remorse has already kicked in and the rose tinted specs went on, but had to be pretty firm and say that no, it's time to draw the line.

Pretty sad end given the shell itself will be getting crushed... will regret that one no doubt, but everything comes to an end eventually.
