RE: Ferrari Portofino: Driven

That looks over styled and under tired if you ask me ....and maybe just a bit bland..........Why do Ferrari not make beautiful cars anymore??
I'm not sure that they ever did. Dont get me wrong. I love Ferraris and would have a Portofino in an instant but few of their cars are in any sense pretty IMO. Both Aston and Jaguar do a much better job of pretty.I tested and very nearly bought a Cali to replace my 430. I still think that its a very under rated carn destined to be knocked by journos who could never afford one and spend too much time in silly expensive mid engined supercars. The Cali was amply fast enough, handled fine and was comfortable and practical , all as a road car.
I didnt buy because I didnt like the idea of the cars complxity meeting Ferrari dealers charge out rates.

Instead of getting immediately to the point and just saying "the Portofino looks like an MX-5 and sounds like a Golf R and is a bit rubbish"
You know, I'm quickly becoming a Yipper fan. Now it's become a more and more obvious that he is trolling for giggles, it's actually quite amusing. Go Team Yipper!!! Yipper is the Honest Trailers of the PH forum.
But what about when he is giving "advice" to unsuspecting folks on topics which he clearly has no personal experience or knowledge on. Is there really anything funny about that? The forums are full of very knowledgeable bods with invaluable experience in many areas which is why so many come here for help. Do the forums really need someone giving out, often very questionable, advice just for the sake of a post count? I personally don't think they do to be honest.
That is my concern with, and objection to Yipper.
I saw one in the showroom this week. I thought it's a good looking car from the side roof down and rear end albeit the boot lid is long same as Cali to take to roof folded.
The interior is a rung down the ladder from the 488 as it should be as it's a cheaper car and not a patch on a new lusso.
I'm not a Cali fan at all but this is a good looking car to although roof up I've not seen it yet and that will be how most of them look in the uk !
I think all round they have done a good job and you could use t as a daily.
I'm in london and I can assure you it's 90% men driving the californias.

I've got a cali last year as i need a daily driver, (as much as i tried an MP4 isn't one) 😅.
They take a bit of getting sued to but stick it in sport and use the paddles and its a great bit of fun. They are very drivable as well - i did 3000 miles around Europe in it last summer.
Was very excited about this portofino but after seeing it I think its quite ugly.
I'm not sure of the front, reminds me if a corvette🤔.
The article is so rambling that I gave up too.

I completely agree, but unfortunately it goes further - once this Yipper is posting misleading legal advice on the SPL forum, that's when enough is enough. The forums are full of very knowledgeable bods with invaluable experience in many areas which is why so many come here for help.

"Granted, there's a tiny bit of fuss about some of the new creases"
now you mention it...
Apart from the (easily removable) yellow Cavalino Rampante sticker, I find this car impossibly beautiful.now you mention it...
And I couldn't care less if those who will never drive one have decreed that it's st to drive either.
I'd love to own one.

I'd have to agree. I'd have one in a heartbeat (if I could afford it), over a 488. For the price of a GTC lusso you could have one of these and a decent spec'd Panamera Sport Tourismo. If you have kids it's almost the ultimate 2 car garage. Unless you have a dog too, then you're f**ked. And I couldn't care less if those who will never drive one have decreed that it's st to drive either.

I really like Nick Cackett's writing, I look forward to reading them and enjoyed this one.
Keep it up Nick, don't let them get you down.
You are in a very, very small minority on that one.Keep it up Nick, don't let them get you down.
His writing belongs in one of those glossy manufacturer publications that are full of expensive watch adverts and arty-farty editorials penned for the gilet and red trouser brigade in the home counties.
Hmmm, not for me. I think the interior looks a mess and too fussy, the exterior is too bland and those wheels look like crap aftermarket alloys from a motor factors.
I'm sure it drives beuatifully and its certainly a better car than my 20yr old Volvo I smoke around in but for me a Ferrari should have that massive desirabilty factor and this simply doesn't have it. I never liked the California either so it was unlikely I was going to like this.
Ferraris are to artificial these days and all this bolt on techno is very impressive but it saps the soul out of the car.
I completely understand its all about target markets and flattering the driver but Porsche made this mistake in the late eighties and allienated traditional customers and enthusiasts and they're sales took a nose dive and put them in trouble. Now i'm sure this unlikely to happen to Ferrari these days but even so I feel they are alienating their enthusiast following.
