again....
Love it. A 3-series, that is categorically better, sells more due to buyers being misguided, and the 'superior' Lexus has st sales because consumers are stupid...nothing to do with the fact it is dull dull dull dull.
Keep going Alan, this is comedy gold.
A diesel 3 series is dull dull dull. They’re unreliable, cramped inside and ride badly. People buy them for badge appeal. Love it. A Lexus IS for instance is reliable, more comfortable and is better styled inside and out. I’ve looked at both with open eyes.

It looks like any modern car, I can see various Audi, BMW, Mercedes influences on that car to be honest, although they're not styling cues as such, just a result of the constraints of modern car design in general. The real issue is how it will drive, and on that front, to appeal to the target audience it will be a safe handling car which has a good level of refinement. Lexus have their USP. I don't know why you can't just be happy that this is your priority instead of making yourself look a bit daft talking about dynamics.
I agree though the reliability, refinement, comfort are more important the ultimate on limit handing for me. It's a road car for christ sakes, not a track car.

The FWD isn't a deal breaker for me but I am concerned it won't stack up to my GS. I might have to get the LS instead

Well there you have it. Buyer, who doesn't really care about dynamics prefers a Lexus. I agree though the reliability, refinement, comfort are more important the ultimate on limit handing for me. It's a road car for christ sakes, not a track car.

So why don't people buy them?? Because they are the automotive equivalent of a sofa. I've looked at both without bias.
Brand appeal. People see Lexus (for some unknown reason as beige) and buying a BMW, merc etc as some passport to being a car person or upmarket when there is very little premium about either. yonex said:

What's funny is my GS has better dynamics than my old E class. I dare say the LS will be better than the S in this regard and in every other possible way.Superiority. It hurts. But yes, reliability, safety, refinement, comfort all come before dynamics when I look for a car.

Yes, I understand what you look for in a car completely. Lexus, a front wheel drive Japanese Mercedes

Why do people not buy Alfa Romeos over the equivalent BMW Merc Audi?.....and in fairness, full range to full range, BMW is better than Alfa. On or two special models might out-BMW BMW, but not the whole range or anything like it. Furthermore, the appeal of an Alfa is niche. If the Lexus is a benign, beige, pleasant sofa...the Alfa is the opposite end of that spectrum. Always going to be niche.

They do.... Plenty just get hung up on a well deserved history of poor reliability. 2yrs into a change is nothing like enough to rid that reputation. Plus there is a st dealer network.

Yep and never in a million years would I buy an Alfa Romeo .....and in fairness, full range to full range, BMW is better than Alfa. Just in the same way that most of the UK population won’t buy Lexus due to the brainwashed badge ideology that makes them flock in droves to the German big 3 irrespective of which cars are best!
Yep - the power of the german marketing machine is very evident in this thread. Great cars like the IS, ES, Kia Stinger will be dismissed simply because they aren't German. Sad in a way. st4 said:

Yes, I can imagine prospective M car owners, as well as those keen on a new 911 really missing the point over a Kia Stinger.Do you actually believe the things you write

A Kia Stinger is a perfectly viable option to a C43, 340i, S4 etc.Do you actually believe the things you write
I have total faith in everything I say. It's logical and factual. Let the German car fanbois miss out on great cars. Great thinkers like me can get a Lexus

It's a forum for car enthusiasts, drivers, track day nutters, d.i.y. car builders, loons that love TVRs, etc. etc. ... not for evangelists preaching the virtues of white goods motoring.
Most of the praise heaped on BMW’s and Mercs is preaching the virtues of white goods motoring. Including this Porsche. Expensive whites good but as a derivative a choice as possible. You should buy one as you seem just the sort of bore who belongs in one.
