The whole thread is a trolling exercise. Nobody can have such big issues with a non-existent problem.

Bin the wife and daughter.

Drive the diesel up to Donny yourself and impress a Chardonnay/Donna/Stacey. She’ll suck your soul out if you drop her at the working men’s club in a Porsche.

I'm going to have a wild stab and suggest that the issue isn't comfort or confidence etc, more two women from London wanting to arrive oop north in a big posh Porsche rather than a Mini. More image than anything else....

Once did South Yorkshire to Elgin couple of years ago, think that was something around the lines of 450-500 miles, stand to be corrected on that in around 8 hours in a 1.4 astra with 3 kids and suitcases etc in the back, Sorry OP you have absolutely no excuses whatsoever, to me this comes across as someone who wants to turn up in a Porsche to try and "impress" all those who will be there and daughter can't get insured on it and a humble Mini simply isn't good enough because frankly nobody would give a st either way.

What I don't understand is why, given the OP is clearly a man of considerable means (he drives a Cayenne 3.0d for god's sake), and is willing to splash out on ANOTHER car for his daughter in order to cut this Gordian knot, he doesn't just add his daughter to his insurance policy on a permanent basis. That's of course assuming that the blazingly obvious answers of using the Mini or telling his wife to stop being so wet are off the cards. Oh that's right, then he wouldn't need to start a thread to tell the world that he is a man of considerable means, silly me.

I drive my '58 plate 1.8 petrol Avensis estate to North Wales, 2 hour drive or 112 miles from my house give or take regularly with no issues whatsoever and with no great desire to jump back in to my old Merc E320 CDI, that I've still not sold.

I've also driven the Avensis even greater distances, such as going down to Shropshire for the weekend driving over my previously stated distance with absolutely no issues, whatsoever.

I honesty can't see any reason why you're daughter can't drive a Mini a similar distance...

The worlds gone mad. Not only is this a total non problem, but the OP decides he needs to enlist the help of PH to solve it. Get a grip!

The one where you describe rich people as having to be airlifted out of West Yorkshire?

P.S. I live in the West Ridings. Luckily close enought to make a dash for the border when the natives get restless. wink

This thread has provided some much needed mirth on a drab Friday morning, thanks.

I'm still chuckling at the below hours later.

Let’s face it, no one in Yorkshire will be impressed with a diesel Porsche, but if you get the pilot to land in the cemetery next to the church, you’ll probably get a “man arrives for wedding in metal bird” write up in the local paper, and the villagers will worship you as a minor deity for at least a generation.

Oh that's ok then, it's alright, just didn't want the OP's Mrs thinking there's potential of snow or something on top of the unbelievable task of travelling a couple of hundred miles in a luxury car, I mean it's bloody ruff up here in't norrff tha knows.

I can only add to the general feeling of "WTF?"

If it helps tell her a friend and I once drove from Southampton to Newcastle and back in less than 12hrs in a J reg Vauxhall Caviller which I'd purchased a few days before for £250 (around 2003).

I'm sure they'll cope in a mini.
