Gosh, only 173 being left and almost no one missing them?
That's one for the Guiness book then.

I genuinly hope someone who likes it takes posession of
that car and cares for it through the years to come. It would
be very dull to see only Mx5-s, GTi-s and 911 in the car
museums documenting the 80ies.

The everyday mobiles, that were most common, get lost first
and rusting ones even more so. I only remember the Vitesse
models to compare very favourably with the 190e and 320i
from a backseat perspective).

Totally agree, at car events I get much more pleasure from looking at the everyday mudane cars from my early childhood memories than the exotica that was not a part of my life. Most cars from this era are poor in performance & dynamic terms compared to modern machinary, not to mention rust protection, but its the memories of them that give them interest to a wide audience, for example- I desperately want a late 60's Viva HB SL (In Starmist Honey-Gold) SDC 12H was my fav, in case you have it in a Carcoon waiting for me? not the worlds greatest motoring achievement by a very wide margin, but my Dad had two when I was a kid & I loved them ! I hope the Vitesse finds a sympathetic owner.

Truly DREADFUL. It's amazing what some people are prepared to covet. Scrap with a wheel stuck on each corner.

This little Rover 216 Vitesse is the car the BMW 130i could have been.

Seems I'm alone in liking this then?

Good car in it's day, from when Rover was still barely profitable and NOT copying honda's (it was the later 214's that were Honda Accords in disguise with K-Series units!

£101 for insurance, will turn heads and able to enter classic car shows, zero depreciation as long as you look after it, and actually quite nice to drive

Not Shed of the week? True, it's no shed, it's perfect cloud9

(runs away to a fireproof bunker and awaits the flaming....)

There are many fans of this little Rover car on here! I've previously owned two and fancy another when money/space allows.

But I have to point out a few mistakes in your post. The Rover 200 SD3 was the first 'Rhonda' and initially was just a wee bit cosmectically different to the Honda Ballade, initially using the Honda 1.3 engine. In 1986, it was revised with a few proper Rover treats internally and externally.

The Second generation 200, R8, was a Rover Honda collaboration. The Rover 600 was the model that was based on the Honda Accord - and that didn't use any form of K-series (It has the Honda 1.8, 2.0 NASP and 2.3 and Rover 2.0 L-series diesel and Rover 2.0 T-series Turbo).

The First generation 200 stole sales away from the Montego, Maestro but not really from rivals. But the second generation made Rover a mildly profitable company again, selling around 1 million units by the time production stopped - making the second generation Rover 200 the best selling Rover of all time.

yes

Triumph Acclaim MK2 really, the original Acclaim being the first generation Honda Ballade, the 200 series being the second.

Or was it 2nd & 3rd generation?

The Rover S-series motor was better than the CVH? I know the CVH is hardly the model of refinement and they need to have the cambelts done on time.
The CVH didn't set the bar very high. Great engines when they were new, soon turned into smoky, smelly, rattly old boat anchors that breathed heavier than an asthmatic pervert.

Is the headlinning still on the roof and not on the seat tops laugh
I used to service one in the late 90's, the owner thrashed the living st out of it daily and appart from snapping an engine mount it allways came back for more, the build quality was ok concidering the rover badge on the back but then buying in other manufacturers cars helpsed no end in that department biggrin
