As an anecdote/alternative to the 8k W124, you could pick this up for only £1,400. Which if you like orange steel wheels, will seem like a bit of a bargain....

(this probably should be on a different thread but as it's a 124, I thought there would be some 'appreciation' here)

That's about £1399 too much for that thing.

Rotten all the way around, collapsed suspension and home made wheels. Niiice.

This pan' roofed Outback has aged well:

It's a well presented car.

Good to see something not on 21 inch rims with rubber band thickness tyres.
That is a decent Japanese mid-size barge, looks really good value too.

"WE SPECIALISE IN LOW MILEAGE CARS."

I wouldn't say 100k in 9 yrs is particularly low mileage though smile

I have made a Doodle poll page for the next barge meet at The National Railway Museum in York.

It will be the usual relaxed format - take a look at our cars, tea, a potter about and so on.

All welcome - please vote for when you can attend, when we have some signups I'll narrow it down to one option and it will become the signup page.

Not keen on abandoning the convertible in a city centre car park, but we should be able to make it.
It's supposedly a commuter car park, so should be reasonably empty. There are different areas if you pay more so I am sure you will be able to find somewhere suitable.
I was there a couple of weeks ago, I would suggest that the other NRM car park (also off Leeman road) would be a better convening spot - it's separated entirely from the railway station car park etc, so no random foot traffic, and is much more spacious for a convening of barges in one corner.

4wd 3.2 V6 Alfa - I think being the estate helps it qualify as mini barge. I'm not a mini barge fan - maybe this should be in the interesting cars thread:

That looks quite cool

Looks great to me but then I'm a cheap date when it comes to velour. Likewise the 300E for the green (green dash! How good?!), but even I'd baulk at 8K.

In other news, my W126 300SE has completed over 20K miles in less than a year during my tenure, and during that time has seen only regular oil+filter changes, new distributor cap and plugs at the beginning (probably unnecessary, but customary), new rear pads, and only just new tyres. And about 3 washes. And plenty of petrol. It's been totally capable and fast and quiet for hours at limit-plus-quite-a-bit speeds. We've been across Europe, I've commuted daily for work, and I was all ready for the thundersnow which hasn't happened yet in the south.

I'm literally sitting on a wooden chair as I write this, and I admit it's dangerous talk. Still, it's comforting to remind oneself that a 25 year old Merc is still a realistic proposition for demanding high mile transport in all conditions. I've probably never had a less eventful 20K miles from a car. Again- wooden chair.
Brilliant! Just shows it can be done!

Unsure if you mean that's good VFM or bad...?
I think that car is well worth £3k of anyones money. You may be able to get a different one for £2k, but what if it costs you £500 worth of repairs within a few months.
65k miles, full Lexus history, lovely colour, nice engine, no reported faults or problems.
I haven't take a look at MOT history though, so can't be 100%.
I'd always buy the very best example of the model i can afford/i'm looking at.
If I get a feeling it's been looked after, there's a good chance it won't st itself on the way home.

Owner couldn't be arsed to wait for a day when it's not raining to take pics, mud all over the mats, not the most salubrious surroundings... all not great signs.

I reallllyyyy would like this E39... i'd replace my E92 320D M Sport coupe for it and keep the change.

As clean as it looks i cant help but think its a smudge over priced?

just looking for something more comfortable than the E92, as much as a great car as it is i just want more bang for my buck and willing to sacrifice some MPG. must be auto and under £6.5k for my 80 mile round commute everyday.

ive also been looking at:

CLS320 (finding a diesel with the AMG kit is impossible!)
E65 730d
D3 A8 3.0 Tdi
E60 520d / 530d
E90 330d
300c (purely based on looks, i know its an old E Class underneath!)

any other suggestions? Nothing Volvo does it for me. Keeping a very close eye on this thread, its bloody wonderful!

Low miles

Nothing scary in the MOT history.

Sadly, it's being auctioned. Could end up anywhere.

All points above almost irrelevant. Might have a 7 day forecast of rain...
Rain water is beading; bodywork is well polished. The mud on the mats looks terrible as they're the rubber mats, and a wet day.
Sorry it isn't at Sandringham for the photos.
He's offering 12 months MOT, 4 new tyres (Brand depending whether this is a good or bad thing...) he claims everything works and nothing doesn't, it's a lovely car (and a good example) for less than you'd pay for a ten year old diesel Golf.
And he's even said he'll entertain offers if you turn up to view.

I think it's shocking there is a guy on the readers cars bought one for 750 and after he'd done the belt (so you know it's actually done) and polished it up it was great and all for 1200 quid

Even allowing for the borktastic 600 factor, this guy's brief and grim experience should put anyone off a W215.

Ad seems honest enough ("the fuel consumption is, quite frankly, awful"), though as he's blocked out the reg you fear the MOT history is a litany of horror.

But then... he's had a load of the typical woes remedied and it's really cheap!
