Normally I'm the biggest enthusiast for self fixery, but all the jobs on the N62 look like a right pain.
The VANOS is awful to service, there's the alternator bracket water seal, valley pipe, stem seals, sumps that need subframes removing etc. It sounds like a right bugger to work on, with various awkward jobs and special tools needed.
Anyway, cured a slight rich misfire on my M54 this weekend with new intake hoses and a fuel filter, hopefully the economy will improve from the mid 20s I've been getting.
I get you, they do look laborious for sure, it's quite tightly packed and seemingly mostly everything has to be removed to get to any gasket etc so not a friendly diy'er more for the advanced/keen/eccentric ones!?The VANOS is awful to service, there's the alternator bracket water seal, valley pipe, stem seals, sumps that need subframes removing etc. It sounds like a right bugger to work on, with various awkward jobs and special tools needed.

From any and all of the cars you have driven, which was the vehicle with the most luxurious, most quiet and most comfortable of all...?

Coolant system was the big one on the M54, but it does have plenty of other foibles.
The elbows on the hoses were polymer, that was the Achilles heel, same goes for the E46. It was a common sight to see them on the hard shoulder, in a cloud of steam. The HG didn’t appreciate that.E65Ross said:
What I will say is.....jesus H christ the rear leg room is insane! Definitely more roomy than the E65 but likewise, a noticeably smaller boot (also due to the rear fridge). The rear seats are also heated and cooled, can be reclined, raised/lowered and the rear headrests are also electrically adjustable using THAT rear arm rest.
I think this is a key feature of the LS460 - the rear space, as I've said in previous posts one of the main reasons I bought mine was because it was one of the few cars that would accommodate 3 x kiddy seats across the back. My kids are too young to use any of the heated/cooled seats functions or electric adjustment but the extra leg room is good (no kicking of the front seats) as is the fold down screen in the roof which can play their DVDs - also have wireless Lexus headphones. For reference the rear leg room is probably as much as by LWB W220.

Congratulations Ross!
I was surprised looking at the auto reader article I posted above that these have 375bhp - which I suspect is significantly more than a 745!
330 bhp ish in the e65 745i I think and 365 bhp ish in the e65 750i I was surprised looking at the auto reader article I posted above that these have 375bhp - which I suspect is significantly more than a 745!
My 750i and LS460 were probably quite evenly match performance wise

I think it has been relisted with new pictures here. Not that I've been looking.
Thanks. Was going to say well done for selling so quick.
My barge has smoked its last. 2005 Merc E320 CDI estate. I have poured thousands in to repairing it in the last 3 years, and now it needs a turbo and injector work. Could be the thick end of £2k, and the car isn't worth that. So it's bye bye time.
I'm afraid I shall be departing bargeage entirely. I have put a deposit on a 2016 Honda Civic estate. It is a 1.8 petrol automatic, but is neither a barge, nor a smoker.
Done with some measure of regret, I shall miss the hilarious torque and the waftiness on the motorway. But I only do a 2-3 long trips in a year.
Farewell, fellows. May the road rise up to meet you and may the RAC be always at your back.

The Turbo R was the most luxurious, but the Century is the quietest and most comfortable. Lot's of similarities, lots of contrasts between the two. Having owned a number of RR&B products the Century has them beat in pure refinement (despite some really crappy fixtures and fittings which are simply not worthy). From any and all of the cars you have driven, which was the vehicle with the most luxurious, most quiet and most comfortable of all...?

I don't think I'll ever have a Mercedes again. Fur coat, no knickers.
