At no point earlier in this discussion was it stipulated that the 'heavy' and 'light' vehicles were the same vehicle.
Even if they're not, it not the weight that's affecting the drag, I just used the example of the van to make it clearbiggbn said:
I would suggest that non petrolheads mock other drivers choice of vehicle and are intolerant towards technological advances... but what do I know?
EVs are the non-petrolheads weapon of choice as their complete lack of emotion about cars is offset by feeling like they've won against any car enthusiast by flooring it everywhere and spouting misinformed claptrap about sustainability.Blown2CV said:

I think you are looking for the 'stupid things petrolheads say' thread...Blown2CV said:

Did someone get smoked by a Tesla recently?Blown2CV said:

But its not caused by the weight, you could have a lighter car with more drag or a lighter one with less.....we are discussing the effect of weight. If you wish to talk about frontal area and drag be my guest but its nothing to do with what i said.......i refer you back to my loading a van example and bigger/smaller batteries. This is now two embarrassing people with engineering degrees posting
Frictional losses in bearings, like the ones that hold your wheels onto your van, are proportional to the radial load applied (weight of vehicle)I think you're embarrassing one person here, but it's not who you think.
If you stick a tonne of st in the back of your van, and change nothing else, even assume your ride height doesn't change so aero drag is unaffected, is it going to have the same top speed?

I'm pretty sure I qualify as a petrolhead, lifelong obsession with cars and I don't see things that way. Had you prefaced your ppint with 'in my opinion' id not even have replied but making a holistic ststment like that seems rather, well, arrogant.
You used ‘holistic’ in general conversation. Glass houses and all that. carlo996 said:

You will have to explain this comment to me. Are you suggesting I change the way I speak just to post on a motoring forum? Seems rather strange, doesn't it? It's a word I use in every day conversation most, erm, days. Really not sure what your point is? Is it a bit like your objection to others liking cars you don't approve of? If you aren't comfortable with a car, a word, whatever, it and its user should be mocked? We should all think, and be, like you? Do you think expressing oneself using the words one is comfortable with is arrogant? Burnt any witches/books lately?
None of that. But I laugh when people use the term holistic. It’s the margarine of vernacular. Edited by biggbn on Monday 24th April 18:33

I'd suggest clicking on the link you've posted, clicking on some results, and actually reading them, you might learn something. That’s three embarrassments

But I suspect it'd would be futile, you seem to have made up your mind.
Mechanical drag, especially at higher speeds, is a much smaller component of drag then aero drag, but it still exists, and has an effect.

I’ll say it againWeight doesn’t affect top speed. The frictional losses of bearings are so minuscule compared to drag they will have practically zero measurable effect. Assuming gearing is optimal top speed is all about power and drag
If you want to discuss start a separate thread
