Yes. From very vague memory, I believe there was.

I remember trying to find one back in 1994. Although the only colour that i wanted was Graphite grey:

Think they may have also been made in Diamond White, Sunburst Red, Metalic Caspian Blue and Black (not sure about Stratos silver)?

Anyway..... Even back then it was hard trying to find nice ones!

Gave up in the end and bought a Series 1 RS Turbo.

I notice the start of this thread mentions that £3000.00 is the starting point for 'nice' ones, I've never seen 'nice' ones for any less than about £5000.00

Seems even Mk2 XR2's are at £3000.00 upwards now for nice ones.

Back 1995 I bought as S1 RS Turbo Escort with 2 owners, 40k miles and FSH for £4k. I looked at loads at the time, most were damage-repaired, ciggie filled dogs of cars and that was 17 years ago!!! One I tried broke down on the test drive and we had to bump start it to get back as the battery had gone flat! But get a good one, and they were great!

Here's a few snaps of one I helped restore. Four months of hard graft, around 800 man hours between us resulted in what you see. Soon to be appearing in the PH classified section wink

I hope you're going to replace those elastic bands with some tyres! wink

Hmm - if you are looking for a bit of barn find and haven't got £26K under the mattress what about this Alfa 33 Cloverleaf. £96 cheaper and this could be SOTW!

Stratos silver was indeed the other colour,i have one.

On another note the car in the OP probably is worth the asking price to the right man.

I personally wouldn't pay anywhere near that for it.If i won the lottery though,i'd have it,strip it,stick a Zetec turbo in it and throw it round a track.Just for fun.

I'd have that like a flash if I could give it somewhere decent to live . Exactly the sort of thing that Id be buying with a little windfall.

Seems a little under priced if anything, id have thought somebody would pay a couple or so for that.

Do you mean the old Autocar cover? I'm trying to think of the 'CAR' one?

I think it is great example - but 26K is way over the top!

Very nice car indeed..... hope you dont mind my using the image. I have it on my photobucket album from when i wrote on a 'dream Garage' thread and one of my cars was a Graphite Grey RS1600i and this was the best pic on the internet i could find of one.

As mentioned i searched for one once but it came to a dead end and bought a S1 RST which i really liked, but having also had a S2 RST i feel like this is the Escort RS (of my generation) that got away and so still hanker for one. Sadly though there is only so much i can get my mind around paying for an 83/84 Escort and its way short of what nice ones go for.

my integrale was in controlled storage for 2 years, yet it has history for when it was started, moved, fluids changed etc, despite the fact it never covered any miles.

Nice car, but not for that money.

Surely regardless of it not reaching service mileage, certain items he should have changed. i.e coolant, brake fluid, oil etc

I think Tony did the right think in keeping it as far away from a Ford dealer as possible.
