I bought my RS500 2 years ago, I was lucky to find a mint example with complete history file. It's one of my childhood favourites.......... I know I will not be selling mine.
Nor the F40 I bet!

Beauty- and value- is truly in the eye of the beholder. I'm just glad there are enough wealthy fanatics around to keep this and other legendary machines on the road!

A friend of my fathers paid what we thought was bonkers money for a RS500 back in the mid 1990's (Part ex'd a mint Mexico as well to get it) Looks like it was a smart buy.

65k? Hahaha good one.
If I had 65k to splurge on a car, this would be one of them. Gorgeous car and a true credit to it's owner.

Cant really get Italian beauty as you put it for £65k. Dont know any new Ferarri or Lambo costing that price.

Joker. 65k buys a whole lot of classy, Italian beauty as opposed to jumped up Essex boy rep box

Not a valid point as you can't buy a new Cosworth for that price today either. You could certainly get a nice Gallardo or F430 for £65k.

Love that model. But only in white, not that blue which looks like it's fading the day the car was purchased. And just too pricey no matter if it's the last of the breed. Sorry.

Is this worth £65k? No

Will it sell at this price? Yes, as there is a backside for every seat.

Is the 1980 mk2 Escort rs2000 in venitian red and 11k on the clock (currently on ebay) worth its £45,000 price tag?? Again No, but will sell eventually to some idiot for that price, because there is an arse for every seat!!

Nostalgic Fords have been increasing in value for the last 10-12yrs. I dont know why its a shock that this is at £65k. It was bound to happen some day!!

There is MANY more overpriced, overrated junk out there for sale...but its all down to horses for courses!!

I love these, but at this sort of money, would rather get a mint E30 M3 Evolution Sport II.

And a few big barges with the change!

What a great looking car. They have totally lost the chav racer appeal of the past.

Good luck to the seller.

I'm sure you could build a near enough identical car for a reasonable sum of money, but, like has been said. It's about the pedigree, and if that's what people are prepared to spend, then that is their value.

Never thought I would see a 3dr Cossie being referred to as bland.
What absolute rot. The Ford Cosworths are cars that transcend the petrol head. Any bloke of that age will know a Ford Cosworth. Everyone remembers them, particularly the Sierra Cosworth. It is a name that resonates with people who don't even care about cars in the same way as Ferrari and Lamborghini do (albeit, only to those who lived through the hey-day of the Cossie).

Surely that's an illogical set of statements then? If it sells at a price then it must be "worth" it to a buyer, maybe only one buyer perhaps? Is it worth £65k to you and many others on here? No.

I bet there's a fair few people on here who wouldn't splurge over 10 million dollars on an old 1950s Ferrari/ Bugatti ......whatever. Do they sell at that price? Yes.

Who determines the worth of something? It won't be someone who isn't going to buy one anyway.......even at a 100th of the price.

Realy ? funny as they never made an RS500 in moonstone blue on a D plate ,lol

This thread has simply shocked me that a website that is here for people who love cars is full of such childish members .

I have seen so much bullst posted by folk who have said things that are so incorrect its just a joke .

Any car , ferrari / bently etc etc is worth what the market says , a seller doesnt dictate the values the buyer does , If somone asks a price for a car and it sells than its the buyer who has dictated the value .

The rs500 is the top of the tree in the ford world and prices will soon pass that of the rs200 ( you can quote me on that ) Sadly this has upset some folk who know they will now never afford to buy one and so feel now its only fair to mock those who can.

I have been the RS500 registrar for near 6 years now and have seen the values rocket and have told people this would happen years ago , now those who didnt listern have now missed the boat.

We all like our own things and so value them as we see them ,Personaly i wouldnt pay ferrari money for a ferrari but im happy to pay big money for a 500 , thats me , others will pay big money for a VW camper , not my bag but thats there thing.

If we all liked and valued the same things then it would be a boaring world

Pauls car is worth every penny and im sure he will get an offer of the asking price , If he will let it go tho is another question

Cheers Paul, the muppets wont let the facts get in the way of their blinkered beliefs, they simply ignore them, even when they come from a well recognised independant specialist in the marque as yourself.

Huge thanks to all the people who have sent me PMs as they dont want to be associated with some of the drivel thats been spouted in this thread.

I doubt he's dreaming. My Sapphire used to get a lot of attention - mostly middle aged blokes I admit, but the number of people who used to come up to me and talk about it was amazing. I can imagine that a RS500 increases that even more.
