The January issue looks right up my street, with the Mondeo ST220 in particular, a car which has long tempted me. I still find myself looking at them on ebay. Well done.
You might be slightly disappointed Steve...it's the diesel ST ...not the V6 wink
Yeah, so I see, strange choice really...I mean a) you can't find an ST TDCI for the headline "one grand" figure and b) as Standard, the ST TDCI never really cut it as a performance car...sure it had a shed load of torque, but no faster 0-60 or 0-100 than, say a Vectra SRI 1.9 CDTI. The ST220 is far more at home in the company of a Clio 182 or Fiat Coupe Turbo.....

..and yes, the TDCI has a bad reputation for big bills as it gets older, EGR Valve, Injectors, DMF etc.

Just seen this thread and thought I'd give the Readly app a go so I can read this and other mags on my phone. Unfortunately I'm either being really thick or Modern Classics isn't on Readly anymore, at least I wasn't able to find it under the automotive section. Can anyone confirm?

If you go on their site, you can trial subscribe for something like £3 for 3 issues. I did it the other night, but it doesn't start until february, so might have to consider paying retail for January's edition.

Not to mention it's fake chrome exhaust tip when it has a down turned exhaust behind it!

A little part of me died when ford launched the diesel ST, because I've always loved the ST220 and I just thought the ST ruined things, and there's nothing more disappointing than thinking a ST220 is coming towards you only for it to be the oil burner instead.

Maybe I need to get over it though...all these years on!! hehe

Looks good, been thinking about scrapping my evo subs for a while - getting fed up with the level of unobtanium in there...

Will give this a go for the 3 issues and then decide..

Almost rude not to.!

Bought a subscription to this just before Xmas - my first copy arrived a little while ago, it's a great magazine and more relevant to me in the real world than something like evo will ever be.

Ha, Ha, I know what you mean too about thinking its an ST220....the diesel ST was always a con, offering no extra poke over the standard 2.2 diesel (only about 105 BHP/ton) and a whole 1 second faster from 0-100 than the a petrol 2 litre Ghia. Even back in 2004 when it was launched Alfa was giving us a 175 BHP 156 and BMW a 204 BHP 330d. If the Mondeo had, say 180 BHP, I don't think anyone would have minded so much.

These complaints aside, the magazine itself is good. This months has the Citroen BX 16 valve, another forgotten gem which probably hasn't been featured in any other car magazine for 15-20 years!

I've used Readly for 18 months and I've never seen Modern Classics on it. Which is a shame.

No Modern Classics has never been on Readly. It is indeed a shame although it's nice to have at least one print mag to read. Readly still amazing value though for 7.99/month.

Clever identification of gap in the market. Non-pretentious, non-trending, down-to-earth.
Both Evo/Octane glossy flashy & expensive to appeal to its target readers, the wealthy, the vain, the smugly indulgent. Us riff-raff enthusiasts ignored & probably sneered at.

I'd better put mine in the folder next to evo #1 then ;-)

NB I note there is a copy of the latter up for £99.99!

They covered the elk-test conquering Citroen Activa in that issue which seems to have got a few people a bit hot under the collar in another thread running on here tonight!

I think issue 1 & 2 are the ones not available from the website as back issues so you have to wait till they come up for sale.

People have been selling the first 6 issues as a job lot for £75 on EBay
