Awkward-looking coupes

Maybe. The Renault certainly isn't as ugly...And an interesting fact about why the Alfa GT looks slightly elongated at the back. It was originally designed as a folding hard top when such things were all the rage, as a rival to the 3 series and Volvo V70. The roof was meant to retract into that cavernous boot and still be a four seater but rumours are that Alfa ran out of development money or time and decided to go with a hardtop coupe despite already having the GTV on sale and the Brera on the drawing board. Bertone later tried to persuade Alfa to make this as well...
...so they could build it in house for them but it fell through. The styling makes more sense seen as a convertible.
Can't help but think a Brerra is a hatch back, Much like the other suggestions, A Sirocco even? I guess the true definition of a coupe is getting lost in translation as time go on.
It seem's like every 2 door car under the sun has been posted, Subjective threading at it's finest.
The Lexus SC430 has always just looked like a soft lined blob of metal in my eyes.

Yes! I have had a few Mk2 Golfs over the years and always fancied a 2 door Jetta, seems that the Yanks call them coupes and it seems to have been picked up over here too.It seem's like every 2 door car under the sun has been posted, Subjective threading at it's finest.

Nope, again its all in proportion and a trip to spec-savers is in order.....The Prelude on the other hand I wholeheartedly agree with, they had fantastic engines and even 4ws which was unusual back in the day but that front end, dear god what where they thinking.

W124 shape Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe. Looks far too elongated and gawky. The C63 was design to be a saloon and looks much better in that variant.
The coupe was quite literally an afterthought and it shows...
W124? The 1980s E Class? The coupe was quite literally an afterthought and it shows...
And in what 'quite literal' way was it an afterthought?
If we are talking about the same car you're right, it looks awful, but I bet it wasn't an afterthought.
Not a howler of a car by any means, but not ideal.

Nope, sorry I have to disagree with you there. I never liked the look of them. They never sat right on the road to me, and I wasn't keen on the design either.
I remember Quentin Wilson describing them gushingly as "looking good enough to stop a speeding train" or something like that, but they did absolutely nothing for me. Very wooden to drive too, as we're most Vauxhalls from that era.
One of the few cars to make me carsick as a passenger, something wierd about the ride settings.I remember Quentin Wilson describing them gushingly as "looking good enough to stop a speeding train" or something like that, but they did absolutely nothing for me. I used to go out with a girl who did genuinely suffer from car sickness badly enough to even get it when she was the driver. Funnily enough we didn't last longer than a few months, haha!

I've never had much love for how the three door coupe Evoque looks... suffers from that slightly awkward look of too much metal between B post and D pillar. Reminds me of a pitbull to continue the dog analogy... wide, aggressive looking at the front but then runs out of beef the further you get to the back.
On the other hand this is a thing of beauty, how right a coupe can be without resorting to looking like a dog doing anything.

Perhaps i'm in the minority here, but the E-Type Coupe for me has always been a lesson in how to take a beautiful car and make it look all wrong. The height, the A pillar angle, the B pillar angle, the sitting dog rear...

10 pages and not a solitary mention of this? Undeniably a good car, and one I happened to really want some years ago, but just look at that front end...
It always gave me the impression of having been designed to have pop up lights that were then outlawed and had to be changed at the last minute. Still a disappointment after the much better looking predecessor. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
