So please explain the following. This plan was shared by JLR with it's investors in June 2018 (also posted by NickGibbs earlier)|https://thumbsnap.com/uaUXIRAo[/url]
Has JLR:
a) Intentionally misled it's investors about it's platform plans and the investment it will require? or
b) Decided to develop a brand new platform from scratch, ready for production in a record breaking 8 months?

The plan is correct. Halewood have been installing the underbody for the new platform 16 months ago. This particular one has been developed for the Hybrid Evoque and Disco sport. I've also been told that the E pace which is currently being built in Austria, will be joining us. So when I say it was new I was being relative.

The current disco sport platform is probably based on the Ford platform but very loosely. The x type platform was supposed to be based on the mondeo but really the Jag was much smaller. The free lander was also supposed to be based on the mondeo platform but was massively different. The mk1 evoque and disco sport. They are very loosely based on the mondeo platform. In fact the disco sport is nothing like the mondeo platform.
Looks good. Looks expensive for something with a 4 pot and leisurely performance mind. I couldn't get over the cost of a Velar with a 4 pot Diesel - when I had a sniff (for the wife ) - sticker price over £70k for a nice spec one.
I think a lot of manufacturers load the price and really load the silly options prices ready for the dealer to do their PCP magic - usually cash flowed direct by the manufacturer as they have so much cash! I think we all need to reconsider the concept of value as we are increasingly acclimatised to RRP!
I got £17k off a new F11 535d as it was end of the model run. That's a huge discount but the notion that it was actually 'worth' £57k was absurd - but I bet many a poor s0d has paid close to that when it was newer. Its just business and there is no gun to your head but I feel prices are VERY heavy these days (said someone who bought a grossly overpriced Macan - but at least hopes for stronger residuals). That "£57k" F11 boneshaker was £25k after 18 months - shafted!

You are correct, some people do indeed buy cars like this for the ease of loading shopping (or kids) into. And for many looks and image will play a big part. Which the Evoque does both very well. And if you can remove you unbiased head, the Evoque isn't a bad car, even if there is something which is better.
But not everyone buys like this. Some people, maybe those in the horse community, out door pursuits (rock climbing/hiking) or farming, would actually welcome something they know they can roll in and out of fields in or up and down tracks. Something an Evoque will do very well.
As would an RX450h, Nx300h, Hyundai Santa Fe, Tuscon etc (and these all look great too). But not everyone buys like this. Ignoring the disingenuous nature of your post, if you read the article, it does state that owners/actual prospective purchasers didn't want it to look that different, so they did what every other manufacturer does and evolve the design.
(checks car garage)
You clearly weren't asked.
Given the Evoque still looks fresh and modern, they would have been daft to change it just to appease a few bearded car nuts on a website
Christ, no need to be an uppity, condescending arse. At least we know your user name is an anagram now. Note the lack of your garage list also. My other half, for the record, does have an Audi q5, although it isnt my cup of tea it does mean I have a say in any future replacement!(checks car garage)

As for lack of imaginative design, sitting with a Q5 on the drive and deriding the Evoque for lack of design evolution is a little ironic.... Or maybe your name is indicative of your thought process
Let’s ignore the fact that this person put an SVR badge on an Evoque and ask the question of why don’t JLR stick the 3.0 Supercharged engine in the Evoque and badge it as SVR, I think it’s a good trick that’s missed, the SVR name is well established now and there is a market for these quick mini 4x4’s! Thoughts ?
Edit - sorry about the picture, not sure why PH doesn’t like my iPhone pictures
