Congrats - it's a nice ( and rare) car. It was advertised at 10k at about 35k miles at MTSV if I remember correctly.
Ah that's good to know. I might ask Mark there for some more info if he has it.

It was a significant of money to pay, but I have been thinking that I really want to be back in a 6 cylinder W124, and I could see myself paying say £2-3k for something with issues that need spending on anyway, and for a car that I would be less happy with (and regret not buying this one).

You've done really well there and also you've gone a way to re-dress the bar.

All the other 'bullst' needs to take notice of that!

(I quite like them...)
Right body style, right engine, right colours and spec, wrong gearbox.

Now about these Sherpas that keep appearing. Fred West would drive a Sherpa camper van wouldn't he? Don't be like Fred.

Another Sunday and another Palmier offering:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-BENZ-500SEL-W1...

We don’t know the mileage yet but that one thing that always makes me really suspicious of him is that he apparently generates SO many bids instantly without even the slightest bit of info and within countable minutes of a car being listed!

That along with not infrequent failed completions and I'm sorry but it just doesn’t ring true with me!

This is mine! Thread discount available!

And yes, the red interior is marvellous!
To be honest that's the best and most realistic car I've seen over the last four days of intensive internet trawling!

( And i'd already said that early this morning before I knew it was a thread member's )
That is one of my favourite MB colours. A/C is very rare in these and one that I very much wish my 2.6 had!

Agreed. No mileage listed or any kind of description at all and yet £3,150.00 and 20 bids! (MOT history says 147k miles in May 2018)

Opinions a few pages ago re what we threadists will all be driving in future volumes prompted me to look for petrol w211s for sale locally. I do like the look of the 211’s interior, especially if one could be found in a lighter hue.

How many for sale within 50 miles?

Guess.
In Norn Iron? No chance.
Correct Harry. NIL! Not even a solitary, miserable 1.8 four-pot. Is NI a bit different from the rest of the UK in veering even more than normal towards miserable frugality? Influence of Ulster-Scots Presbyterianism perhaps?
We may enjoy the smoothness of an lovely in-line 6 or the grunt of a V8 but we know it’s a sin and we’ll pay for it later somehow, so let’s just get that 2.0 diesel like everyone else, sure if it doesn’t save our souls then at least it’ll save a couple of hundred £ a year in fuel, so that’s a blessin!

ETA: I’m supping Jawbox gin on The Lord’s Day, so I’m going to Hell regardless, might as well get there in a petrol in-line 6.

Evening gents. Greetings from Killinchy. I had same predicament last year when replacing my 320d. Looking for S320 CDI W221s and facelifted W/S211 E320 Cdis. Couldn't find anything decent and forget about facelifted estates which was my preference.
Test drove an S at Culloden hotel but wasn't great, on way back saw the car I have now for sale. I said to my mate that's the car I've been looking!
Been getting it spruced up since and it's driving brilliant. I drive a lot so I like a decent car, wagon practicality is a bonus.
See plenty about but few for sale so I think folks hang onto them.

Oh just read you wanted a petrol. Oh very rare. Did you see the gorgeous E500 5.5 fir sale in Crawfordsburn? I think it's gone. Black on black with AMG kit Pano roof, big wheels really lovely. I think £6k

So already I'm giving it a miss, irrespective of how much 'other cars' are advertised for.

Picked this up today. 98,800, sat nav, aux, new brakes and Airmaric compressor, serviced and 1 years MOT. £3900

Very nice. I've been pouring over listings for CLS' for about 6 months now with a serious eye on picking one up when insurance is due for renewal (4 weeks and counting).
Key options for me are heated seats, the Harmon Kardon system and the updated 5.5L V8 which puts me right at the top end of thread budget for one with plenty of miles under its belt.

I keep getting budget creep though and ending up looking at W211 E63 AMGs trying to convice myself I can make the man maths work.
Loving mine...although it's a 320... but only a cracked spring and services in 18 months.

I know it was bought new by a Lady something in Kensington hence the low mileage. It ended up at Specialist cars York who sold it to me and I did the head gasket and wiring loom ( a common Specialist cars occurrence I realized too late) before selling it back to the previous owner before Specialist cars ( he was missing it) and it then ended up around a year later at MTSV.

Well I loved it once I got over having to do the wiring loom and head gasket. I sold it as I had 6 cars and had just bought a smoke silver 300 te 24v. I prefer the non sport line cars and it is pretty brisk. It looks good still in those pictures. It's on different wheels and the steering wheel has changed. Nothing else as far as I can tell.

Super, thankyou for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it. I only decided to put a bid in later this evening, so it was rather impulsive, so it is good to hear that some of the car's history is known.

It seems that pretty much all these cars have now been in the hands of someone on or related to the thread at some point!

Nice car, decent spec. However, the seller is clearly a cretin so it's a no from me.
I have just read the advert for that Lexus. What does 'I was going to VIP her' actually mean? How can it possibly involve a donor car - particularly when trying to point out how near perfect this car is during the advert. Just awful. Run away and keep running.

Hello. wavey and welcome to the mad-house.

So even finding a decent diesel is difficult? I've no hope then. I think I might have seen the 500 you mention, but I'm not looking seriously at the minute. I've got to get the W124 sorted and away and I've just bought a 2nd totally non-thread car so the 1st non-thread car will have to go too. Maybe then I might be interested, or maybe I'll take the opportunity to enjoy only having 2 cars to look after for the first time in about 15 years.

It roughly translates as 'fk it right up'.

here is a 'VIP-ed' Celsior. Like you I'm at a loss as to why this would require a donor car.

In for another volume!

Went to Spa this weekend with the good lady. The old shed took it very well, in spite of some Belgians doing Belgian things on the roads... It always does. Euro trip No. 4 with it now. Found an old castle to take a snap with too. smile
