I didn't realise his collection was up to 41. Good going.

The TV programme made him come across as super-paranoid about the car involved (which is perhaps understandable as it was about £300k-worth)

However, his autobiography did make him seem like a complete tool. Cringe-worthy stuff.
The Maserati wasn't the most suitable car was it? It was eligible for the MM, but they'd sourced a car that happened to have problems or wasn't perhaps the most suitable? Or they chose a car that was very unusual? Many of these type programmes seem to encounter foreseeable problems, or situations or people that are unhelpful that just happen to make for a more interesting programme? Perhaps I'm just cynical?

If he was personally invested in the car, then being concerned about it could be explained that participation in the MM would've increased the value of the car?

Was the friction or stress with his girlfriend/wife/partner engineered or exaggerated for the sake of the TV programme? A benefit of such situations if they are staged or story boarded is that the people in such fly on the wall documentaries can play a part rather than give their personal lives away on screen? Given some threads on PH such situations within couples over cars or money spent on toys any atmosphere between them may've been real.

I read his book. The mention of daughter of a famous film producer came across a bit kiss and tell to me. Doesn't the book mention an Opel and spell it with an A? Such an error in a book by a car enthusiast wasn't convincing to me.

Possibly urban myth. Here is the car supposedly written off in 2011 by 'a friend'

Or previously on a car rally in 2006 (again supposedly):

In 2017 it looked it rude health like this and was up for sale for £550k:

Not bad for a right-off........
His original SE30 did end up in the scrap yard. The driver wrecked it before it got to the video shoot for Cosmic Girl. The replacement SE30 was sourced for the video.

The wrecked car in Honk Kong (or somewhere like that) was as far as I know nothing to do with Jay Kay.

The car that was at Amari was another different SE30 which he apparently bought some time after the first car was written off.

The story J K tells on a DVD I have is the shipping company who were taking the cars to the visit shoot wrecked the first one before it got in the truck.
Then he sourced another and told them no one to drive any cars till he arrived. When he got to the shoot everyone was looking sheepish and the had crashed the replacement lambo into the camera crew and smashed the screen. They eventually got a new screen stuck in but in some shots you can see it has no windscreen.

Greg Norman (Aussie golfer) had a Ferrari Enzo, saw him driving it to the Open in Birkdale last time it was here (2 years ago?).

Most footballers lease their cars. Carragher & Gerrard certainly do. Duncan Ferguson (Fiesta Van mentioned earlier) drove an Audi X7 last time I saw him. His son was in the same class as mine at school - really lovely family, very down to earth and the kids are polite and well mannered .... unlike some...

I remember reading an article in the early nineties about Bryan Adams and his custom Special Vehicles Land Rover called VOD100, which was short for Vehicle Of Doom, 100" wheelbase. It was a "greatest hits" (no pun intended) of Defender, Discovery and Range Rover parts.

There was also a mahoosive stereo, that was apparently at the insistence of his friend at Land Rover as he wasn't that fussed.
Possibly in the first issue of Top Gear magazine?

I watched that documentary on JM entering the MM and he came across badly when introduced to his co driver.

It went something like...."oh it's a woman"

As for the car choice ,I have no idea how well it was prepared but all the cars in the event are pre 1957 and asking 60yo cars to do 1000 miles

in 3 days then ,4 days now ,is asking a lot.

It would help if some of the entrants didn't treat it like a race ,which it is not.

Professor Green and his Merc:

No offence to fans of his. And not having a go at Cookie for posting this.

But Mr Green is clearly a paid celebrity by Mercedes. He's had a G wagen recently and an SLS. There's a SL in one of his videos. It's not that HES buying the cars.

And here is a tasteless wife beater who buys cars for flash, their monetary value, not because they have an inherent interest in great drivers cars.

Elton John is just the same. (most probably and Ive seen Rocketman biggrin )

Can we try to limit it to cars that we know the person actually bought themselves? JayKay being an obvious example.

VOD100 was built for Brian by Paul Clark at Dunsfold in late 1992 and early 1993. i built the engine for it, which was a mildly tweaked 2.5 TDI
