It's a good statement. BUT still no explanation over why the raw footage can't be released. Oh well, the next run is going to be hugely anticipated and IF it does it will probably end up being the most reported record of all time. IF.
All Jerod Shelby had to say is: "sorry we got caught, let us try again, ok?"
But no, he's still claiming the car hit 331mph... but they don't have any footage of it.
He basically went from saying all the GPS data is 100% accurate and all verified by Dewetron to "we immediately knew there was something wrong with the GPS data when we first saw the video".

I like Robert Mitchell’s channel, but it’s starting to appear like a witch hunt. SSC have admitted the balls up and plan on re-running the attempt. This guy could start moonlighting as a detective, sound frequency analysis!? wow

It's not really a balls up though is it. Claiming to be running a final drive that is capable of 331mph, but having been proven not to through various means. It's just a complete fabrication, somehow they seem to have come out of it ok, and have just bailed by saying they'll run again. Just hope the standard tyres which are clearly not up to the job of that sort of speed hold up, and there isn't an accident.

Someone on Instagram is willing to pay the Nevada Department of Transportation to close the road down if SSC agree to rerun by the end of 2020. The reasoning is because people think that Jerod Shelby will cheat and change the car to hit the speeds he claims it hit.

I have to agree with them, he'll use this time to develop what will pretty much be a new car. People on the inside will talk. On the other hand, we have a company that has claimed to break a world record and provided extremely shoddy excuses at best - at worst, outright lies - and that's a big deal if you make a living reporting on cars. This is being driven by SSCs lack of adequate explanations for what happened, because it's all been a bit 'dog ate my homework' so far. I understand the perspective but there are risks every time you go for the limit and no brand wants to be associated with the fallout of a major crash and a dead test pilot. So achieving your aim with the minimum attempts has to be desirable. The idea of plucking up tbe courage again probably isn't that attractive in terms of risk. Crashing at 300mph is pretty much certain death - it's not something I'd want to risk once, let alone having to repeat it because no-one thought to verify things accurately!Watching the cockpit video of the run scares the crap out of me. Compare this to something like a Le Mans Prototype which "only" has a top speed of ~350kph and itself probably wouldn't stand a chance at 300mph.

You can argue its pointless since 300 is almost certain death, but I was suprised to see no roll cage in there. The Hammond dragster is a bit of a different situation in that there is a clear safety cell designed for the kind of speeds the car is likely to achieve. Compare it to rollcages on something like a BTCC car and it is obviously far more substantial (as you'd expect)
