How about 307k miles in a 560SEC? Owned from I think about 70k miles
Engine and gearbox are fine, as quick as ever, but 2 comprehensive body work restorations...
I've owned a couple of 560's with around 300K miles. The thing to watch out for with that engine is head gaskets. The seem to rot and cause minor leaks at around 20 years, no matter the mileage.Engine and gearbox are fine, as quick as ever, but 2 comprehensive body work restorations...

It’s an ‘89 car and that’s not happened yet, thanks for the warning. It’s had a set of valve stems, but I’m pretty sure the heads have not been off.

Well...I currently own 2 560SEC, 1 500SEC, a 560SEL and a 420SEL. Probably another 7-8 cars worth of parts on shelves It’s an ‘89 car and that’s not happened yet, thanks for the warning. It’s had a set of valve stems, but I’m pretty sure the heads have not been off.

200K miles on a clutch? That car must have lived on the motorway.
While it was ~26k short of the 200k my old Mondeo was on the original clutch and the last 80k was spent mostly commuting which was ~28Mi each way of which probably about 22Mi or so was Motorway/A-road as well as towing (two bike trailer). It was slightly above average mileage/year (~14k) and ~80% of that would have been motorway. I've zero doubt if I hadn't sold it at 174k that it would have made it to 200k+.
we had a 2006 1.2 Skoda Fabia from new, was p/exed last year on 280k kms, so around 170k miles at 13 years old, had been used and abused in those years, was still on original clutch and engine was still running pretty much the same as when new. I did try and do regular oil changes, but I'm pretty certain that at one point it when 40k kms between a couple of the changes and most of the others were late!
It was pretty much used every day, no short journeys though, minimum was probably 15 miles each time, so was always warmed up.
I would say that most, if not all, petrol engines will all easily do 200k with regular oil changes, it will be something else on the car that fails and makes it an uneconomical repair.

Interesting! I've never really seen a high miles boxster. Which always makes me wonder how durable they are. How has it been? Any engine work been carried out. I bet it runs like a dream. I think regular use and impeccable servicing will keep almost any engine going for well over 200k

My 2005 2.7 987 has 105k, no reason to see why it can't easily do double that. The only problem is that I will be drawing my pension and unable to get in it as it is lowered, when it gets anywhere near that!I've never really seen a high miles boxster. I've not read the whole thread, but I assume PopPopBangBang has been mentioned? His 911 has moonship miles, north of 400k IIRC.

Bought my 2004 Renaultsport Clio 182 back in 2012 for the princely sum of £2400
Since then in terms of let downs, it popped a tyre on the motorway in the winter of 2018 and that has been the only time I've had to have it dragged home. Few injector issues occasionally, an earthing issue recently and now I have a steering angle sensor fault.
However everything works as it should, Cruise, Climate (A/C still icy cold) auto lights etc etc. Car is a hoot to drive still and still no plans to get rid.
Engine is original, headgasket, bearings, etc all original, never been opened. Gearbox is the same all original, whines in first and has since the day I got it, never got any worse.
I do a couple of trackdays a year in it and around 12k every year, car remains my daily as it has since I bought it.
General maintenance is kept up, replace the oil and filter once every 6 months or 6k miles and doesn't use any between services, never had to top it up even on a trackday interval. It's about due it's second cambelt service under my ownership on mileage, not age.
So the currently total, just a hair over 220k miles
Simply stunning. They always say that the engines in these seem to perform & pull better with more miles on them, so more miles is usually a bonus rather than a hindrance, provided it's been looked after.
This popped up on Youtube...

Features a Volvo 850R having done 225k and still does 140+ (I won't give away if they make 150 or not!)

200,000 miles on a 30year old Golf GTi isn't exactly high mileage though, that's only about 7000 miles a year.
The main reason cars don't reach really high mileages is that they don't do enough miles before they become too expensive to MoT or a rust riddled deathtrap. And most cars bought to do high mileages are diesel anyway.

Have to say, this thread is making me feel much better about my Mk3 2.0 Petrol Mondeo, with a mere 91,000 miles on the clock!
Just had new air and oil filters, and fully synth oil. And new sparks within the last 1500 miles. Hopefully will serve me well for many years to come.
Very impressed with the high mileage Boxster. And as for the Bentley, what an excellent way to accumulate the miles.

A great thread and an interesting read which prompted me to check on my Dad's old Bentley Turbo RL, off topic as he does not own the car anymore.
Purchased the car in 1993 and on the day of the sale in July 2018 the odometer showed 196,707 miles (Dad was the second owner and covered 180,000 of the total mileage).
I carried out a DVLA MOT Check this afternoon and am delighted to see the owner is heading closer to 200,000.
MOT (pass) carried out 29/10/2020 @ 199,203 miles.
Nice, I have a few of those. Working on them is a giant pain in the rear. I can't imagine that the heads have not come off in all this time.Purchased the car in 1993 and on the day of the sale in July 2018 the odometer showed 196,707 miles (Dad was the second owner and covered 180,000 of the total mileage).

Great to see Dad's old car again and that it is being looked after.
I plan to keep my 2001 BMW 530i Sport tourer until it has done 200,000 miles, now on 193000 but has always liked a drop of oil ( 750 mils to a litre now)since I bought it on 75000 16 years ago. New alternator recently, radiator a few years ago and auto transmission oil cooler 4 years ago. Still runs sweetly.
