I don't think the media helps with those misconceptions. People regularly refer to Bezos as the richest man in the world, but the guy doesn't have $150bn+ in his Coutts account (although I imagine he has a decent chunk!). The difference here is that Bay-Z likely do have accounts full of cash (or at least accessible investments) as their wealth is built up from actual income (not company valuations as in the case of Bezos).

It's the difference between actual money and associated wealth.

Also, I am not sure you can knock anyone for selling a product (music, services, companies...) for a lot of money. Beats and Tidal were sold for the agreed market rate. Both of the folks involved have extensive music catalogs that have significant value.

As for the final point - who says how much they also give to charitable endeavours? It could be the price of their Roller 10-times over for all we know.

In short - it's their money, they've earned it and are free to do whatever they want. In this instance, I am probably more disappointed that RR are having a lend of them with that stupid price tag.
As one of this forums more socialist thinking contributors, I could not agree more, anomalous soul that I am. Well said.

Hey it's got those cool wheeltrims they have on offer in the window of my local Motor World - didn't know they did them in blue, the ones in my shop are pink. £19.99, good to see Rolls are economising.

What a heap of plastic looking trash.

It looks well, but where exactly would you go to have a picnic in a car like that? By definition, public spaces will be full of ghastly types who will stare at you (or worse). Unless it's to a friend's estate; but wouldn’t it be rather odd to go to a mate’s gaff and not be invited indoors? And presumably you don’t need a Royce to travel to a picnic in the grounds (no matter how extensive) of your own manor. An old Landie would do fine.

Nice car; though 20 mill is a little on the spicy side

How does the roof work? It looks very complicated.
The staff take it away. If it rains you put the umbrella up.
You don't have that issue, with a bit of planning you take the other car(s) if there is a chance of rain. Or you keep this in one of your properties where it doesn't rain for significant parts of the year - or decade if you are in the Middle East.
I won't ever have that conundrum !

Regardless of how or where millionaires/billionaires obtained their wealth, and what they choose to do with it, that £20 million should have a nought knocked off the end. If I was in their situation, I'd resent someone taking the piss out of me.

I think some of these people have so much money that they simply like to buy the most expensive of something that is available, the more expensive the better, without any thought or care as to the actual value. They just like to think they can buy something that others can't afford.

These two comments represent the perfect infinite commentary loop. Close the thread...they've achieved the comment singularity:

I watched the Youtube video interview with one of the design team. I have rarely heard such a load of pretentious twaddle in my life.

They hand built a car in the manner that all cars used to be made and ripped off the "curator" for an obscene amount of money.

Even if that's pocket money to you, you're still being taken for a mug.

That's utter nonsense. Bezos has sold over $2.5bn worth of shares this year on top of over $10bn last year.

In terms of liquidity he's in a different stratosphere to Jay Z and Beyonce. Probably how he's paid for his new yacht.

Amazon makes massive profits, it's not some tech start up that's been given a massive valuation despite never having made a profit.

Completely missed the point and clearly didn't read what I said, but whatever.

I think that car’s the perfect way to launch the coachbuilt service, it’ll get people talking.

Now to cross my fingers for a lottery win and see how much RR would charge for a Phantom Estate.

Exactly - all relative.

(also - have you seen the bit where ever at £500m, he will still have another super yacht that follows the larger one around as a floating supply ship/garage for his cars? That's proper Bond-villain-level st right there. biggrinbiggrin )
He has the look of one too scratchchin

I confess I cannot see where £60 million went (they are making 3 of them, yes?)

Well about 55 of them went into the Rolls coffers.
