Most Beautiful Car Interiors
Discussion
OK, some fabulous pictures posted in response to my original post. Now let's move it on a bit...
From what we've looked at what do you think are the essential ingredients for 'beautiful interiors'? Does it have to have wood or leather or metal or intricate dials or toggle switches etc. etc? Does it ave to be all one colour or do two or three colours give a better atmosphere?
What are the specific details and/or features which make an interior special?

Good proportion to volume, exact colour harmony, tactile elements that offer visual interest, a feeling of intimacy, high quality of materials, understatement, driver focussed instruments, night illumination ambiance.JD said:

By the looks of things, it has to be either British or Italian! From this can we construe that these are not "essential" requirements for a beautiful interior?

don't especially like restrained german interiors...
I'm not a fan of the interiors you have posted if I'm honest, but like I said each to their own.Edited by greggy50 on Tuesday 3rd February 01:38

I cant believe the number of BMW interiors posted! I'm a huge fan of BMW's myself and their interiors are deffinitly functional and usualy well designed and can look quite nice, but they just aren't drop dead gorgeous.
IMO the Tuscan deserves a mention for beauty.
Couldn't agree more with this one. Mainly as it's my car!!!!! IMO the Tuscan deserves a mention for beauty.
I'm not bothered but got to ask how you ended up with that pic!!

its the reason why i generally dislike TVR interiors
they are over-designed, over-fashioned and contain way too much bullst factor
they do kind of look impressive but in terms of actually owning one, i'd feel a bit embarrased and out of place

Simple, elegant, and very easy to use (when you know how it works). The dash also de-clutters the doors (no door release on the door). I also have to say, it is very well made.
My other TVR dash - ok, so I did the c/f, but it's still simple and functional.

not sure it qualifys as beautifull however i used to have one of these exactly the same and loved every moment i spent in it, i used to look forward to getting into it for a journey, especially when going to scotland to see the mrs's folks.
Indeed, a nice place to spend time in. Mine had the full wooden dash (where the dials are) and the non-airbag steering wheel which was a bit more elegant.I preferred the XJ40 interior to my X308 to be honest.

Unless you're sat in the centre, all car interiors are asymmetric.

I'd say the test of a good car interior is, if it is inviting and makes you want to sit in it...
TVR interiors have come in for some stout criticism on this thread but I'd defend the Cerbera cockpit as one of the most inviting/intimate interiors ever produced. It's unconventional for sure but it is an ergonomic masterpiece once you tune into it and let go of the dogma of just about every other interior layout. It works - even window/ICE functions are within finger reach of your gearshift hand - and it was one of the earliest cars to have steering wheel-mounted buttons. I can't fault it, it's one of the - if not THE - best examples of TVR's open-minded creativity. And from experience, everybody wants to sit in it. By contrast, the Diablo 6.0 interior has the same inviting appeal but ergonomically has faults - passengers lean on the window switches, it's too easy to nudge on the interior lights when reaching for the seatbelt, you can't see the indicator repeaters in sunlight, the main beam light is out of the driver's sight line, the driver has to lean forward to adjust the ICE... But it LOOKS superb and the night-time ambience is peerless. Somehow you learn to work around its faults because it feels worth it.
My other favourite interior is the W126 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Nothing flashy, just a triumph of function with understated style. Nothing particularly draws your attention, it all just "is". I've driven this interior almost daily for 18 years and never tired of it, it's like a sanctuary. I don't know I'd call it beautiful like the Cerbera/Diablo 6.0 but it's certainly one of the best - better than the W124 to my eyes because it's softer, less angular.
