I'm seriously toying with trading in my vx220 against on of these...please talk me out of it
Do it smile The Clio will be just as much fun and more practical.

Hmm that wasn't really what you were looking for was it scratchchin
nope, I was at the Renault garage yesterday nosing around, love the look of the new megane coupe too, only thing that stops me is memories of my '97 yellow megane coupe 1.6, affectionately reffered to by my friends as "the gaybar", and by me as "that fking death trap".

No disrespect but I very much doubt a Clio will be as much fun as a vx220 wink

Isn't the Cup supposed to be their lightweight "track focused" version? at 1200Kg it seems a bit weighty to me - esp. for a 2 door, 4 cylinder hatchback. I guess that's why it needs a 200hp engine - fully loaded up with the shopping it'd be a dog otherwise....LOL!!

Maybe it's my age, but I just don't get this at all. And Clio Sport - isn't that a contradiction of terms ;-)
I doubt it's a 200bhp engine, the 197s put out around 180-185 in independant tests. Meaning that the car actually had a worse power/weight ratio than the 172/182.

Still, the only new hot hatch worth a look in my eyes.
I had a blast in the cup last night against one, im guessing a dealers, and my cup didn't walk away, but it was quicker.. not hugely, but it was.. I guess the guy thought he could out brake me into the roundabout, but no.. but i do have uprated pads/disks, so a little unfair ..

I would still like one thou.
Ah the old "road test". Completely meaningless.

The 172/182s rarely made their quoted power either. More like 150-160bhp if we're going to start spouting such irrelevant nonsense.
Well, obviously meaningless, I was just telling my tale.. According to my mechanic, who knows the know the results on fifth gear were actually reversed..

Hi,

joe_90 - what exactly do you mean by "who knows the know the results on fifth gear were actually reversed.. "?

I've actually got one of these on order and it'll be my first Renault and my first brand new car, and in the article, he says they ran the car in for 600 miles, but I read on other forums that people should run the car in for 2k miles or whatever, can anyone enlighten me about running a brand new car in please?

And has anyone watched the Stig take the car around the Top Gear Test Track?

http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/stig-lap-renaults...

Can't actually see what the time was though...anyone know?

For this sort of money you could get yourself a top spec second hand GOLF GTI. But im guessing this is probably more fun but from what I have seen in the pics of the 200 cup's interior the golf has pi**ed all over its campfire. Im currently still looking for a hot hatch this is yet another one I am going to have to look at!

Well done, what options did you go for and colour? in that vid the stig looks down at the gearlever a couple of times.

Wonder if they will feature it in the next series of TG - I hope so

Well the older clio actually won, just beat the new one.. But that wouldn't have looked so good on tv. Hope over to cliosports for more info.. could be BS?

But the new car is a cracking cracking car.. enjoy.

More than likely on that site.

Keethos - Let it warm up properly and take it to near the redline occasionally in 2nd or 3rd. Don't go tearing around too much in the first few hundred miles but don't granny it like the handbook says either.

I certainly subscribe to the method of taking it close to the redline a couple of times within the first 20-50 miles. I had the oil/filter changed at circa 1500 miles as well. Despite the service intervals I still believe in changing the oil more regularly and definitely so on a new car. Besides it was a bit mucky looking even at that mileage.

Mine's in rude health as a result and unlike many others never burns any oil. It leaks out of the sump instead!

Hi,

I got the full fat one in Glacier White with the Cup Chassis, so with the Anthracite wheels. I've also got the front bumper and rear diffuser in Anthracite along with the extra rear spoiler. It was weird with the rear spoiler, had seen them on cars on autotrader but no one in my showroom or the main dealer in Birmingham knew anything about a spoiler for it, Birmingham even rang up renaultsport and was told that they weren't doin it....even though there are 200s with them on, but my local managed to find out and I added it at the last minute. I also opt'd for the carbon trim, cornering lights, folding mirrors and the upgraded stereo. I didn't bother with the recaro's cos I just don't fit in them right...I'll just end up wearing the lip of the right leg support like a lot of the 197 drives do.

I was hoping that either TG or FG would review the car, FG featured it in the dog fight, but that was it...maybe next season!

PS - Swervin Mervin - thats for the info dude....can't wait!

I'm thinking of going for one of these: full fat option with cup chassis.

But what about the Recaros, any good on a long journey for a tall guy (6'4")?

I know you can usually get quite a bit of money off a brand new Renault, what sort of prices have people been getting?

I'm 6'3" and broad too - found the recaros very comfortable - snug rather 'pinching'. Certainly get my vote.

When I had my 182 I was sensible for the first 1000 then started to enjoy it smile

I also changed the oil at 6K and that made a lot of difference so I would recommend changing way before the first service is due, if I were to do it again I'd change it at 1K and 6K, it's only 50 quid after all.

I did a hot lap and so did my girlfriend. They guy was a clio cup racer i know that for sure he was also just pipped to an F1 seat by hamilton. Anyway he was seriously quick so Ican only say that this car is absolutely mental on a track its extremely quick and responsive!

I'd love one.
