I'm either going to drive to Poland, or buy another W124 in the coming weeks. I am not sure yet (why not?!)
Blimey, how did that choice distill down into those two options? I can see the obvious choices one has to make: Aldi or Lidl; cheese and pickle or prawn mayo; merlot or pinot grigio, but a road trip to Poland OR an old Merc seems a curious dilemma.
Both count as things I would like to do and would probably end up costing the same amount. I like a good hotel and i'm very capable of running up an excellent bar/restaurant bill with a good friend there!

The overwhelming majority of things are not £800. Only W124s, trips to Poland and, err, lots of sweets. So if you've got £800 loitering around, doing-your-head-in, then what's an Oa to do?
I'm thinking at least £1,500 - or 3 (bank withdrawals). Indeed what is one to do?You could combine the two. Road trip to Poland, where you buy an old Merc and return in regal splendour. Or on the back of a flat-bed.
I drove to Poland once (actually, I flew there and drove back) and promised myself never again. It was a while back, but the roads were medieval, and every other vehicle was a tractor. With no lights.
I can see why even the Germans have given it up, and encouraged westwards migration rather than east.

I like Poland. Beats buying a car you already have again, surely?

I'm either going to drive to Poland, or buy another W124 in the coming weeks. I am not sure yet (why not?!). 300 litres of fuel and a long weekend with some stops along the way with a mate (take advantage of the lower oil prices!).
Got to be the trip to Poland! It's something I'm also planning to do at some point as I have a friend who lives in Białystok in Eastern Poland, hell of a long drive, but I do enjoy driving by myself and that makes a good destination. I think when I buy my next car (hopefully an XJ) I'll do it and possibly go back via Lublin, Košice, Budapest etc, go into Northern Italy then head across the Alps into Bavaria, then to home. Poland's great, and well worth a trip.

I love driving (especially my old W124!) and the last trip of 1,200 miles in 2 days left me itching to drive more when I pulled in the drive at the end of the 2 days, it was sad to park up and go for a beer.
I will be starting in Edinburgh as well

I love the straight 6 in my 300. I was driving down some country lanes earlier and giving it some beans and it sounds great. To me it is a key part of the character of the car. They need revs to get the best out of them (which is fine by me!).
I can see the appeal of a 4 in a workhorse if the right car comes along - the extra economy would be helpful.
The question is would your cat be BETTER with a 4 cylinder engine? I can see the appeal of a 4 in a workhorse if the right car comes along - the extra economy would be helpful.
Don't think so.

21 hours according to Google Maps - does that mean 21 hours?
I did Edinburgh to the Midlands in 59% of the time Google said before Christmas - though that's my one quick driving day so I doubt that should be used as a representative number!
If you're talking the 5er in the West Country, check flights to Bristol Airport - not far from thereI did Edinburgh to the Midlands in 59% of the time Google said before Christmas - though that's my one quick driving day so I doubt that should be used as a representative number!
