what they should have said was that after about 1995 they forgot how to make good cars, and it was their output from then had no appeal.
His comments were on the nose; the brand has heritage, but they'd never defined their market position (rallying? slightly sexy/luxurious mid-market? something else?) and had nothing that could be monetised by 2004. V 02 said:
At work, have to bite my tongue and keep my mouth shut as I am prone to making snarky comments which will make me look like a prick
From the colleagues around my age (late teens/early 20s)
Another:
Me casually mentioning I need to take my car for its major service soon
“I need to take my car for a service soon”
“I do mine every year”
“Oh really, where do you get it done?”
“Just the MOT centre”
“So do you mean a service or MOT?”
“MOT”
“But I mean a service”
“What’s that”
“You know, like maintenance”
“Oh, I never do that, I have a Toyota, it only goes in for its MOT and that’s it”
“Do you at least change the oil?”
“Nah, never done it in 3 years, what’s the point”
?!?!

My other half worked with a young lass who had a 4 year old Aygo implode somehow - she had borrowed to the max to buy it, then managed to drive nearly 100k in it over those 4 years - and had never taken it in for a service or checked anything. Apparently the only thing she did was new tyres when colleagues were pointing out they were bald. We think she basically ran out of oil, and we are not sure it had an MOT. She was really upset when it blew up as she had one more year of loan on it. My other half tried to discuss maintenance, but was told it was a new car and they should just work...

Works, but............... If you have a claim, the insurance company will look online at the MOT history to check it's mileage. They might even do that when you renew your insurance.CanAm said:

Last night I was dreaming about Alfa Romeo and Lancia, more specifically the demise of Lancia, as you do.
This morning I did a search ‘What happened to Lancia’.
"We realized the Lancia brand has no appeal outside of Italy," then CEO Sergio Marchionne said in July 2014. "It has no heritage neither in Europe nor in the U.S."
No wonder the brand is not doing very well, with leadership like that.
He's right though. among the 0.5% of the population who are car enthusiasts Lancia is legendary, but that's not enough to market a semi-mainstream brand. Even among car enthusiasts it's only the older ones who will remember the Lancia heyday. If you were to go out into the street in the UK you'd probably struggle to find a single person under 40 who knew what Lancia was. This morning I did a search ‘What happened to Lancia’.

I can't remember if it was on a different forum or perhaps an earlier version of this thread but I'll recant as best I can.
A chap was stopped at a petrol station in (I think) a Caterham. Some young fellas came over saying it looked nice etc and asked how fast it was. He told them it was geared to 120 at the minute. The young fellas laughed and one advised his dad's Vectra was faster because it could do 140.

I think that was me in my Westfield. Probably on this thread somewhere. It was a quick car that, about 220bhp and it would quite violently hit the limiter in top. It’s no vectra though A chap was stopped at a petrol station in (I think) a Caterham. Some young fellas came over saying it looked nice etc and asked how fast it was. Bit of a thread resurrection, and it's something so minor I've no idea why it irked me so much.
Colleague of mine has got a new car - it's a Peugeot 3008 of some flavour. She's not a petrolhead but was very excited for her 24-plate car, understandable and the other folks in the office were happy for her. Me too, obviously.
However there's one thing she said that stuck with me. She had upgraded from a Nissan Juke and she was commenting how her new car had a "smart handbrake".
I was puzzled, wondering if it was something new I'd not heard about, but from what I can gather when I asked, it's just a normal electronic handbrake with hill hold assist.
I guess with everything being called "smart" these days, it shouldn't be a surprise someone uses that term for an electronic handbrake, especially having had a normal cable handbrake in her previous car, but I don't know why that particular term stuck with me.

^ For some reason that reminded me of something my best mate at high school said to me. It was 1998 and the Ford Focus had only just been released. My mate came into school bragging about his uncles new car that he'd just been dropped off in. To be fair to him his parents didn't drive, so his experience in cars was pretty limited.
'My uncle has just dropped me off in his new car, it's well smart. It's got an electric sunroof and windows, and the radio even tells you what radio station you're listening too!' He was genuinely excited.
I asked what car it was
'It's a Ford... Ford... something or other...'
I was expecting him to say Focus, it'd just been released, me and my other car nerd friends had discussed how brilliant it looked, etc. and with him bragging about this smart new Ford we weren't expecting him to say anything different.
'A Ford... ORION! That's it. A Ford Orion. It's well smart....' he went on, mainly about the amazing radio that told you the name of the station....

It's because diesel drivers love the feeling of a good jerk off.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerk_(physics)
Anyone who buys a diesel for `performance' is doing it wrong (albeit some can be quite quick) Diesels are generally bought for more than two seats, low fuel consumption, long range, good pulling power with a full load on, and relatively low running costs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerk_(physics)
All the things in fact, that one usually does NOT buy a performance car for.
I know it is an old (Non petrol head) saying, but there are still some saying, `That if we build more roads, they will only be filled up with more cars'
We could just as easily say, if we build more schools, they will only get filled up with more children, Or if we build more hospitals, they will only get filled up with more sick or injured people, Or if we build more houses they will only get filled up with more people.

- Auto disengage when someone puts foot on the brake to go into drive or first
- Auto engage when park is selected (auto)
- Auto engage when the driver's door is opened after a drive event
- Auto engage on a hill for hill-holding
I'd call that smart.
Could be in for a bit of slapping, but here goes.
Automotive journalist who spout utter testicles on even the most basic of topics. Below is and excerpt from the bio, of once such BBS (Billy Bull*******)
BBS is an accomplished automotive journalist and editor with a passion for cars. With over a decade of experience in the industry, he has established himself as a trusted voice in the automotive community.
At the moment, I’m doing a little research on a lesser known car, simply out of curiosity.
“For those seeking even greater power and performance, the V12 engines in the Nissan President took performance to the next level. With their exceptional power output, these engines provided a thrilling driving experience that pushed the boundaries of what a luxury sedan could achieve. The V12 engines in the President delivered immense horsepower and torque, delivering blistering acceleration and exhilarating top speeds.”
Now I’m not the sharpest writing implement in the pencil case. However, as far as I know, the only road going production car in Japan is the ‘Toyota Century V12’ a fact which I think is widely known.

Yup- pretty sure it's just the Toyota with a V12- the Nissan President had a V8 i think. What is worse here is the paragraph you quoted- that reads to me like it was AI-generated- not actually written by a human being- it says something vague and repetitive. Any decent journalist/writer would do a lot better than that.Automotive journalist who spout utter testicles on even the most basic of topics.
