Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo Coupe

I have a problem, this is the only car that has been on my mind since around Wednesday. I just love 'em. I like the fact they are different to M-Sport models, that little bit more special, rare. The wheel designs, the different interiors and wheels. I will own one one day, it has to be this era or newer due to the older Alpina models do not do anything for me..

Lovely! cloud9
And in about 20 years you might be able to afford to insure one! hehe

Living with some of the country's best driving roads on my door step, I fancy something like this with SVA kit so I could take it for the occasional spin.

Quite possibly. I see people on here at age twenty-one with 330i though, so I would hope around that age. Lovely cars regardless. Do you know if there are anything that is different over the B3 and D3? thumbup

Was having my daily browse on Autotrader, and came across this 6.0 V12 XJ, thought I'd get an insurance quote just for fun (note, I'm 21). Turns out it'd be cheaper to insure than the Volvo C70 2.4t I've also been looking at and lots of other far more boring cars. I'm far more tempted than I should be. I think I'd probably bankrupt myself eventually if I bought it though smile

Oh I already knew that - I just wondered if there was anything else that was different..

wink

As far as I know there's a few differences between them, mainly mechanical (I'm not entirely sure on the interior), stuff like wider tyres and different wheel depths to incorporate the the larger brakes on the B3. They both share the same suspension geometry, with bits nabbed off other E9x BMW's (eg: subframe bushings from a 335D) but the B3 uses, iirc, its own bespoke front and rear stabilisers. There's probably more I've not mentioned as well.

All this talk of Alp's has got me wanting an E28 today though.

Had a bright, lime green VW Scirocco R pass me on the A3(M) into Portsmouth this morning, as the car ahead of him in L2 moved over, this thing was gone! Looked so good in my mirrors as it approached, lights on. Last week in Portsmouth itself a Rising Blue R DSG shot out from the lights under the railway at Gunwharf Quays and left past me at full chat, sounded great, especially with it 'Woofle-ing' from the exhausts on upshifts...

Realistically, an Alfa GTV in blue with tan leather to tuck away in the garage for a bit of a toy.

Unrealistically, series 1 Exige :-)

If you're that young, you have the chance to have a proper sports car without having to have a boot and rear seats. Take it while you can - most people are forced into a four door when families hit (though not me :P). There is plenty of time to get a go-faster family car.

That is not a proper Alpina IMO, too similar to the car it is based on and it does not look anything special for the money. M-Sport mean sod all now, just a load of marketing ste to lure customers into thiniking their 320d M-Sport is a scaled down version of the chicken vindaloo M3.

Alpina was all about making something totally different to the original BMW car, ok the new cars have the wheels and stripes which are optional but where are the crazy interiors which used to be a standard item on Alpina's of old.

Get yourself down to Sytner BMW in Nottingham, next to Graypaul, they are the main UK dealer for Alpina.

I always loved the warm versions of the 106... Sounds like a cracking car. I recently bought a black '92 CRX 1.6 16V on impulse, and my God that a fun car to toss around! Somehow I always knew there were many great drivers cars for cheap out there, but I have really opened my eyes for these warm hatches as you are able to smash the throttle in a daily commute without risking to lose your license or put others in danger!

This is my car, still exploring its limits (I know the wheels are horrible, looking to get black 16" lightweight Enkei's next season):

I had one of these in the 90s cracking bit of kit, I loved it.
