Agreed the bikers stopping was a waste of time with those people, I wouldn't have bothered.
I did stop on my bicycle once after a gas engineer drove past me at 40 mph and gave me less than a foot space. He really scared me, but I couldn't believe my luck when he stopped 600 yards later to supervise some workmen digging a hole in the road. I was very polite, but pointed out that if I had wobbled he would have killed me, and it would be a good idea if he changed the way he drove. I made sure I was speaking loudly enough so his workmen could hear every word and he had to stand there meekly listening to me as he could hardly tell me to get lost with his audience listening
