i know from certain angles they look a little awkward, & they aren't that fast but as a daily driver & for the honeymoon drive down to italy next year i'm thinking it's a bit more special than a boxster/cayman.

lovely inside too
Seen a few on my commutes. Very nice bits of kit.

I've been offered a manual (yes manual) Mercedes C180 for scrap money and am wondering if it would make a decent Se7en donor.

Silver or aluminium Se7en with a black nose cone and a Mercedes truck badge on the grille. Hmmmmmm.... scratchchin

That is not a proper Alpina IMO, too similar to the car it is based on and it does not look anything special for the money. M-Sport mean sod all now, just a load of marketing ste to lure customers into thiniking their 320d M-Sport is a scaled down version of the chicken vindaloo M3.

Alpina was all about making something totally different to the original BMW car, ok the new cars have the wheels and stripes which are optional but where are the crazy interiors which used to be a standard item on Alpina's of old.

Get yourself down to Sytner BMW in Nottingham, next to Graypaul, they are the main UK dealer for Alpina.
See now, that is why I like it - it is a subtle difference and those details set it apart. The M-Sport as you say means nothing now as I saw a white 316i M-Sport this morning on my commute.

I thought Alpina was just a tuning arm for BMW, but I may be wrong, and in their defence you can still get crazy coloured interiors, but I would rather not. I know about Synter Nottingham and that makes it more alluring as a dealer network it is not a vast distance away! Do you know if Synter in Derby would touch them, you know - the one down the road from Aston Martin?

Stop it, I still am thinking about them now! hehe

Ahem, Alpina is a manufacturer in its own right, not a tuning arm wink Personally I prefer the older ones, although this is high on the list too:

I do not know all the Alpina dealers in the UK, Sytner in Nottingham was started by Frank Sytner, he used to race an E30 M3 in the BTCC and was the first franchise to receive the right to sell Alpina's in the UK. Now i think there are about half a dozen Alpina dealers in the UK, i know of Sytner in Notts and Bowker in Preston.

Alpina are a seperate manufacturer, they specialist in BMW, similar to AMG who contracted to Mercedes. Alpina basically take a BMW engine, throw everything away except the block, usually bore it out and then rebuild it.

ETA; these are my idea of an Alpina. Wonderful creations.

I'm sure Sytner High Wycombe have an Alpina arm too, and Canary Wharf for that matter.

ETA: Yeah, Alpina UK HQ is Sytner Nottingham and Sytner also have:

Canary Wharf (London)
Essex-Harold Wood
Essex-Chigwell
Sunningdale (my local)
Maidenhead
High Wycombe
Maidenhead
Cardiff
Newport
Solihull
Birmingham
Oldbury
Sutton Coldfield
Coventry
Leicestershire
Sheffield

And Sytner's in Nottingham were the only ones in Europe outside of Buchloe to be granted a licence to build Alpinas too. They converted mine in early 1991 from a factory 325i Touring, and then it was sold through John Clark BMW in Aberdeen

I would so like to own a pre war OHC square rigger MG before I die. Maybe rebuilding one like this. Its been bugging me today as I found out on Sunday someone we know had sold an abandoned project for a lot less than the asking on this one.
a quick twirl of the spanners and here you are

I always loved the warm versions of the 106... Sounds like a cracking car. I recently bought a black '92 CRX 1.6 16V on impulse, and my God that a fun car to toss around! Somehow I always knew there were many great drivers cars for cheap out there, but I have really opened my eyes for these warm hatches as you are able to smash the throttle in a daily commute without risking to lose your license or put others in danger!

This is my car, still exploring its limits (I know the wheels are horrible, looking to get black 16" lightweight Enkei's next season):
Ah i do love the crx's, the shape seems so right, great engine too.
Insurance says no though frown

If you use the paddles in the Polo, you'll hate the manual buttons/splapstick in this.
