Jonny Smith has spent three months with one, his review on The Late Brake Show is interesting, and very mixed.

Say it with an Oriental accent and it appeals to their main market.

Absolutely no worse than their BMW/Merc/Audi/JLR equivalent. It’s the nature of the segment.

It's a kit car from the 80's or 90's

One was used on the TV program "Challenge Anneka" to transport Anneka Rice's botrom between locations smile

He’s not talking about the styling.

He’s replying to a comment I made about the company seemingly toning down their name for the uk/EU market. The company is called ‘build your dreams’, I said I couldn’t spot that in their uk website and it looked like they have gone with BYD for the name instead.

He said don’t look round the back then:

At least you can DIY debadge that, they have a supermini model coming called the Dolphin, that one has Build Your Dreams across the back too, inside the light strip.

You could put a "My other car's a Porpoische" sticker over it.

Thank you! I knew it was somewhere in my child-hood memory box.

... also 'Which Kit' magazines from the early 90's.

There are reports that claim the founder said it originally stood for Bring Your Dollars.

I actually saw one of these at a show this weekend and yes it's a daft name and the car itself is probably a big crap but I really looked the look of the car.

It was in a word - funky!

Kind of reminded me of when the new beetle and the pt cruiser was launched, just a bit different to the norm.

If someone were to remove that slogan, and fit some Aston Martin DBX badges, would 90% of the population notice, if they encountered the car in the wild, without the real thing next to it to compare to.

The same way if you stuck a bmw badge on most of the non premium European stuff the vast majority wouldn’t be able to tell, like the majority of owners didn’t know what rwd was on a 1 serries.

But I think that’s all a different matter? Isn’t it the fact build your dreams is just as st as it would be if bmw or audi put live love laugh or something equally naff on the back? Personally I’m surprised someone in the uk or European office didn’t say, let’s just make a different badge for 11p per unit, as that’s a bit naff.

It just feels very Chinese culturally, guessing in China this makes sense, it just seems like something they would cater/alter for European tastes and culture. I can’t imagine MG would do this on the back or go with that as a name.

Maybe this is a bigger intent that the Chinese don’t care what local tastes are, they are going to be cheaper than the competition and probably don’t care.

Although I never liked the power, beauty, soul startup routine on aston martins either. In fact, now I think about it maybe this isn’t that bad or a Chinese thing and everyone has been doing it for years.

What’s the actual car like?! spin

I don’t know what I think any more, I’m going for a nap.

Checked out the website of my local Mitsubishi dealer who only now service them, no new cars for sale and they now sell Ssangyong and XBUS.

I thought WTF is XBUS?
