Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 18]
Discussion
When you look at cars like the P38 and Disco 2 and just how shoddily assembled and engineered they were it's hard not to think that the work BMW did to get every aspect of the LR business up past the complete joke level must have been gargantuan, doubtless against a lot of resistance from the famously arrogant culture present within the British companies, maybe an even bigger task that Ford had with Jaguar. Not that they were entirely successful, particularly compared to how well Ford sorted out the quality issues with Jaguar by 2003.
I think the only LR product that isn't widely considered "a bit risky" is the Freelander 2, which was built in a Ford factory with Ford engines on a Ford platform using a great deal of Ford componentry, and a bought in AWD system. I'm surprised the LR badges, their biggest contribution, don't fall off.
ETA - The "gigantic maestro" comment got a guffaw here.

The door-to-door screens are a little on the busy side with some of the display options, but I think the Honda e is a much better interpretation of the "everything is a tablet" dashboard than anything BMW or Mercedes are putting out. There's more W124/W126 influence in that layout than there is in a Mercedes! Especially those slim air vents, which are very W126.
And it's a little city car...
Very fond of these: I think they're a great looking new car.And it's a little city car...

One of those cars that just vanished overnight. If you had a much-loved but long in the tooth FL2, would you replace it with an Evoque? Nope, you'd just give it to The Man for some love, and keep it.

People with hair in places you wouldn't expect it, and people without hair in places you would expect it, respectively.
[quote=Martin30]All this talk of dash to axle ratio is very interesting, thanks SB123 and others for sharing.
I'll add my thanks too and offer this picture of how Renault helpfully included a line from the A post to the front wheel in order to make the point. Front wheel drive with an inline engine tucked up against the bulkhead and the gearbox flung to the front of the engine bay. An umbrella handled gear lever poked through the dashboard dealt with swapping cogs. 845cc of tarmac rippling chevaux when I first cut my teeth on the roads.

Hilarious gear linkage on those things!Yes, it is the four foot long pole over the top of the engine...
Looks like the exhaust exits through the front inner wing too!

4 new pirrelli scorpions in last 12 months new radiator for the air con and water pump in December. Smells like a small oil leak assume cam covers but only recent so haven't looked yet and small bubbles on passenger side arch and inside back doors. Can't seem to get pictures up atm.

I'm not sure they've vanished overnight, it's just that no-one is selling their FL2, as they are so reliable, and there's no heir apparent.

Plus......gigantic maestro! If you had a much-loved but long in the tooth FL2, would you replace it with an Evoque? Nope, you'd just give it to The Man for some love, and keep it.
You're bang on with both comments I think and your descriptions are what's missing from good motoring journalism these days.
