I'd suggest an S series TVR, I ran mine for 18 months as an only car, mostly reliable Ford's part one it, although not as nicely styled as a chimaera it would be a good way into a TVR, will cope with daily use. You mention the parking on your road but then say your mx5 is a very clean one, if they were that bad the 5 would be covered in parking dings, it could be the driver of the elise is responsible.
My '5 is clean indeed; but it's only been here about 2 months, and I park very very defensively and turn wing mirrors in, make sure I'm very very close to the kerb. About half the cars on this road have scrapes on them.

S is too expensive to insure, unfortunately, else it'd be top of my list. This is unless a specialist is much cheaper. When I get a free day away from work I will be calling people like REIS and seeing if they can do me anything smile

Regarding insurance - I wouldn't even bother with mainstream insurers at your age, they'll just charge silly prices. Get some quotes with some of the proper specialists, there is a thread in Japchat somewhere with a list of a lot of them.. and then you may be able to reconsider some of your options.
Considering Admiral are the ones quoting me under £1k on a lot of these cars (supras, 3000gts, RX8), and under £1300 on things like an Elise or a 350Z, I don't think that's totally true!

I will definitely be giving a few specialists a call in the next couple of days... although I'm not 21 till october!
