Good video footage of a VW G7R hunting down a yellow Ferrari 458 at the Ring:

not sure if it is hunting down that Ferrari but it is still quite impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdKku0SY0ek&fe...
the description says "Golf VII R, original (stock) + IS-Racing BBK"
does anybody know what the "IS-Racing BBK" stands for?

But some people want the punch without the bone-crushing ride or the eye-watering running costs. An overtaking weapon that can get point-to-point in good time in all weathers, with plenty of useable space, and lots of toys.
People don't buy these cars as weekend cars to light their soul on fire. They are all-in-ones that do a bit of everything.
For many it simply isn't practical to run three separate cars for family, for dirty jobs, and for themselves, so they have to make do.
Yes, that's true and I'm tempted to have one too. However I'll say that the Golf R might be a good all rounder but NOT good through bred performance car. All out performance you cannot compare it with for example an M3.People don't buy these cars as weekend cars to light their soul on fire. They are all-in-ones that do a bit of everything.

A few hours down the remap shop for a simple, cheap, stage1 tune makes the G7R faster to 60 and faster to 100 than the new M3.
And the Golf R400 next year will crush the M3 and M4 to 60 and 100.
The GTI 1 ushered in the hot-hatch era in 1975. The R 7 has ushered in the super-hatch era in 2013 / 2014.

Fanboi perhaps? You hadn`t notice a particularly fast hatchback until this car really?
Everyday shopping trolleys are entering a new era of fast speeds and turbos.
No longer the preserve of six-figure cars or rally geeks.

Really are you saying no car was there before it? Howsabout the impreza STI hatch doing the same thing years ago? Did that not "usher in an era"? or perhaps the Lancia Delta Integrale and Escort Cosworth etc did it 20 years ago?
Saying the Golf has somehow ushered in an era that these cars have been representing for years just seems like fanboyism unless you just forgot that others have been around a long time.
Rally geeks? Really? This is a petrolhead site.
So how is "the game changing" as you put it?
The Golf R can be driven by everyone, from chavs to millionaires.
And to look at the bigger picture -- the Golf R is step 1... step 2 is the R400 and AMG A45 "Black Series"... both of which will soon be M3- and 911-killers at lower prices.
The Golf R is selling in much bigger volumes than VW expected (currently up to 6 months' wait for a new one, which is long, by VW and other standards)... Once the other major car makers get wind of the R's popularity, they are going to join the race to build the best superhatch -- the Ford ST and RS models, for example, are already starting to look a little slow and dated by comparison (a second or more slower to 60mph).
The Golf R was just voted the 3rd best performance car by Top Gear mag... Beaten only by a Porker and Macca...
Many seem to be struggling to comprehend the shift that is taking place before their eyes.
VW (and MB) have upped their game.
The R and R400 (and A45) are game-changers.
R is the new M

When I happen upon a topic that is of interest to me (heard mixed reviews about Golf R, so thought I'd read this topic) I always skip to the final page, to see if it's descended into the usual nonsense before I waste my time reading it.
Glad this hasn't disappointed.
Anyone actually got a Golf R and written anything about it? Good or bad. Just interested to know what they're like.
Buy the July issue of Top Gear magazine. In their overall test, the Golf R Mk7 beats everything, from the Porsche Cayman GTS to the BMW M4. The R Mk7 looks set to join the Mk1 / Mk2 GTI as a landmark car.Glad this hasn't disappointed.

^ The VW Golf R Mk7 just keeps on beating everything in its class, and beyond.
This week, the VW Golf R beat the Porsche 911 and Nissan GTR -- in an authoritative Autocar test -- in the wet.
"Strong everywhere – under acceleration, braking and laterally – the Golf R is the ideal way to make a car for wet conditions. It goes, stops and grips like no other":

Yet another award for the new Golf R Mk7.
Jeremy Clarkson, in The Sunday Times, today voting the R the best hot hatch of all time:

"Not my words Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine...hello?"
With a mere 90bhp available, progress is too leisurely to be called fast but on the motorway in fifth gear the Golf R’s slow pace really becomes a pain. Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
