Heads up all those going down/up the A23.

I had to go out this morning along the A23. Mr Speed Aware / Revenue Stream was working the overbridges, both directions, 4 places simultaneously. As they tend to like working consecutive days, don't be surprised if you see them on Saturday - bridges and laybys as well. A27 between Chichester and Btn another favourite as is the A24 just north of Brighton / Horsham and the M23 south of the Gatwick and Crawley turnings is another sure fire revenue spinning spot for the police - especially saturday mornings

Drive like angels, sound like trackslags.

Righto:

Request from the missus: Definately need a 20+ car tunnel run.

Who's into physics re: aural car positioning for maximum noise and resonance. Loudest in midddle? loudest at ends? or just all mixed up? Come on PH noise officianados. Someone out here knows the answer to this question!

Very frightening night - but it's going to take more than a hellish hour to keep Lily away from this.

See you all tomorrow morning. Thanks to all who are coming early, there should (hopefully) be a few more nibbles along the way and some hot drinks etc.

Cakes seem to be the order of the day PistonHead wise. Honestly, the casual reader would think on this site CC stands for Cake Capacity... in which case 7.5litre sounds about right.

Lily can't wait. I will never be able to express my thanks in the way I want to, but thank you all so very much. You know, when you make a request like this, you live in hope of a good response, but this is more than I ever imagined. Tomorrow will be ace and we'll have a laugh along the way.

P.S. Looks like the local paper is coming...

<gok>

.. so chaps, scrub the oil from beneath your nails smile Ladies, of course it goes without saying that you will be as beautiful as a beautiful thing.

i'm too sexy for my vette, too sexy for my cake ... too sexy

Car Parking - there is a link from the hospice to the polyclinic, so car parking should not really be an issue.

Right folks, last email from me.

We have the use of the day hospice tomorrow - a largish room in which we can sit and chat. There will be pretty much endless tea and coffee, cakes and a few other bits and pieces.

I have been gently asked by the Hospice to remind everyone of the purpose and nature of the facilities and to respect them and to be aware of the other needs of patients and relatives who might be arriving in the course of the day.

That being said, tomorrow is a special, special day and I am sure it will be a great success. I find it hard to believe it has all come together at such short notice and with such an incredible level of support. It is completely amazing and shows PH at its very best.

You never know what life will throw up and in all our very bumpy road and difficult days, tomorrow is a shining beacon of the very best in human nature. Lily will be the first to put her thumbs up and say that we have had an amazing journey through cancer. We have received some incredible clinical support and have been embraced daily by the human face behind hard medicinal facts. We have met love and support at every step of the way and in the most unexpected places. It has and continues to be a ride and a half.

... and if you've been wondering why corvettes....

My missus grew up in Abadan in the late 70's and early 80's and there were many American cars around at the time - especially Corvettes. It takes her back to a time and place before war and revolutions, before terrible things, to a childhood of peoples, places and times long gone. It is a connection that is very special and very precious.

You see, it's more than cars, it's memories. That's why tomorrow is so special - a link between the past and the present - between friendships of childhood and the generosity of strangers now. It doesn't get more precious than this. It means the world to me that this is happening. Thank you all for making it all happen.

I only found out today that there was a link from the hospice to the Polyclinic directly behind us. On my way home this morning to get tea and coffee, I drove in and had a good look around. I grinned from ear to ear. Perfect I thought to myself as I went to the nearby Co-op. In fact, if anyone in the supermarket saw a gormlesly grinning idiot wandering around with a bag full of stuff, apologies I was just thinking to myself I knew it was going to be perfect.

And so it was. It's hard to say really what my thoughts were as I walked with Lily up the path to the Polyclinic. As soon as we walked out of the hospice you could hear the noise; the distant rumbling of a prehistoric carnovore. Behind the trees it sat, waiting... waiting... waiting.

We turned the corner and you could hear its gutural bellow. Oh the noise, the beautiful noise. Intoxicating, wild, raw, unadulterated and unedited. Noise, of the most beautiful kind. Unleashed noise, unrestrained and straining within it's own carcass to be let loose. Metalic noise, unbridled, demanding to be heard, insisting on being heard. It resonated around the empty carpark. Slightly softened by the surrounding trees, reflected by the buildings, the mighty giant let loose the loudest of bellows and roars. Through the frequencies it screamed, the higher pitch of the italian tones, the deep bass of the american muscle, the firm insistence of the English chorus and then the outrageous roar of the unleashed purple heart within. The neighbours trembled in their houses. Like fearful natives hearing the cannons first blast, they emerged from their dwellings to be greeted by a second even louder cry. A bellow, a chant, the thudding heart of the carnivore on the hunt...

Oh what a noise, a beautiful noise, a chorus of turned metal nursed into metalic wail by the kindest of peoples. What wonderful tourmentors they turned out to be. The car is their beast, yet with kindness in their hearts and most generous of spirits they made Lily's and my day.

It was magical, it was special beyond words, in ways I cannot ever begin to describe beyond wonderful. We are truly touched by your kindness. Lily is sleeping now, it was a wondeful day fully of wonderful people; the kindest and most gentle of souls who let their generosity show in a way that means so much to me. Today my Abadani girl got her wish. A ride in a 71 corvette. It was blue, it was beautiful, it was wonderful. Before she just dozed off, I asked her what she thought and she gave me the thumbs up and a smile that went from ear to ear. It said more than my words ever could.

Thank you all. Thank you for contributing to these posts with your so generous support. Thank you for donating monies to the hospice, which is doing a wonderful job at keeping Lily well and comfortable (and making me fatter!). Thank you all for turning up today. It is a blur of faces and names, of swirling cars of which every one was wonderful and the tunnel run a memory I shall never forget.

But especially, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart for making a dream of mine come true. I don't know what the future holds, but today you did something truly remarkable. You are all so modest in your '... not at all's, it was nothing...', but really you are a credit to the best in humanity and the generosity of the human spirit. It was more than a gesture, it was true kindness and in kindness of the stranger there comes true friendship that lasts a lifetime and if you consider us your friends, then upon us you grant the greatest blessing of all. Thank you all so very, very much.

^^ That's the pic I was thinking of, quick work, Matt! I await the cheesy pics.

BTW is it wrong that I'm still starving hungry? Just finished a huge bowl of pasta carbonara & wishing I had brought home some cake for pudding dammnit! Although speaking of cheese, I have half a camenbert in the fridge, happy days smile
so who took the last fat wedge of choccy cake home then. I was eyeing that up before I had to go. I texted Alison and she has not replied yet. Her man had a very strange glint (well perhaps no stranger than normal ... ) in his eye as he was scoffing his bit of it. Ummm. Best not to pry.

Blooming 'ek, i'm properly knackered today. I feel like one of those kids who sleeps all boxing day knackered from the excitement of Xmas day.

As for Lily... well her eyes have glazed over a few times today and when I ask her if she is sleepy, she smiles the biggest and the sweetest smiles. Not sleepy, just happy she has written.

Oh well chaps and chapesses, consider it mission acomplished. A job well done. I would have said have some cake, but as the photos above ably demonstrate, cake was very much the order of yesterday.

As if the Hospice didn't do enough as it is, to be completely relaxed about a load of Petrolheads pulling up and making a racket equivalent to a Airbus landing in the car park is very bloody good of them!
... I knew it would be OK when I mentioned the initial idea and they said no worries, they've had 35 greeks and a Donkey in one of the rooms before celebrating Easter.

I didn't bat an eyelid, but I did think to myself, that's a bloody big spitroast. I knew then it wouldn't be a problem ..

Question: I've got some lovely PH freebie stickers that I wanted to give to those who came on Saturday. Bloomin typical, no post saturday mornings, so they came yesterday. How can I get these to those who came. It was meant as a little memento to the day. What's the easiest way to do this?

If mailing out is going to be a pain as you are obviously busy with Lily, yell and I will come get them and coordinate posting out. Easy peasy smile Seeing some attendees again anyway over Xmas, and anyone else can pm with their address and I would be happy to do the posting.
Sounds like a plan if that's OK with you. I would like to add a little something to them so i'll give you a call when i'm ready. Thank you smile
