Do the 360's really only do 9 miles per gallon?
About 10-12 on a spirited run, easily into single figures if really pushing....driving like a granny may hit 19-20mpg

If I were using it every day I'd probably have a Porsche GT3 as the V8's don't stand up to a heavy commute very well!

The GT3 is a horrible road car in comparison.

I walk to my office — about 10 mins away — so this would be pure toy-territory. Obviously though there's no way I could resist driving the bugger at every opportunity, but mileage will be pretty low. And I'm used to poor MPG from things like my M3, track-M3, and Cayman. And weirdly my diesel X5! Obviously not on a par with a 360, but I know it isn't going to be Mondeo-money.

Hmm... think I may be getting back in touch with my finance man!

I looked at a few Sags and T350's but I just can't accept the fit and finish on them, and the GT3 looks too 'normal' to qualify the money IMHO.

Strange, the 997 GT3's I've driven were relatively supple, even the RS. Must admit I've never driven a 996 GT3 though

Windy ive just done this myself, except for me its a 308GTS. Drive at the weekends and to work once a week, so she doesnt spend the whole week standing still. Given the circumstances out there though, my plan is just the summer driving season. I expect to lose a few thou on the deal, but I dont get the winter storage hassle, any expensive bills, etc. If I was in the UK, I would do it for the whole yr. For £40k I would personally got with the 550, indeed its a 550 Im looking at for next yr's plan.

Oh and I can confirm, it is utterly life affirming smile

Yes, even the Mk2 996 GT3 is a fair bit "softer" from the factory - the original Mk1 GT3 was bone-rattlingly,tramliningly hideous on anything but the smoothest surfaces....however on track.....unbelievably good. And I'm assuming at this budget we're talking Mk1 GT3.

There is a massive part of me saying that I don't really 'do' F cars. Nice enough but for the money there is so much more without the chest wigged, walnut faced, branded trousers and st combo brigade following.

Then I think of the noise, history and everything else.

As a toy with plenty to cover any OMFG bills I think I would do it, although the Lambo at that price is even more tempting...

AMV8 - nice enough but have heard too many horror stories to seriously consider one.

Go on, do it!

Only problem is you won't keep it a year wink

I did this with a F430 spider last year... didnt think I would like it. Thought it would be all mouth and no trousers... but Just wanted to do the F car thing properly as had 360 v v v briefly before.

Turns out... its EPIC and I have fallen madly in love. Can't see me selling it until the 458spider gets down to 125K ish so will be looong time yet!

Good luck. Enjoy smile

Go for the AM V8V. Might not be as quick, but is a much better all round car.

Not to mention the looks or sound.

Don't do it. This is the third time I did not buy a Ferrari and I have never once regretted not losing $1000's on a mid life crisis.

This is what I need - friendly nudges in the right direction!!!

The AMV8 running costs seem a bit mental compared to the Ferrari, which is one of the reasons I'm thinking Italian.

So did you guys experience any scary bills? Plenty about for just over 40k with a decent spec.
Er, yes... well, my dad did anyway - variator went on one of the banks, cost £6k to put right, though more recent investigation suggests that he may have been ripped off a tad. He got fed up with it after that and opted to sell it rather than risk another massive bill (bearing in mind he had an expensive failure on his 355 just prior to selling as well), opting to go for something german instead.

Somehow, there's a 430 parked in his garage now though..! smile

I guess that once the bug has bitten you, there's no letting go - find a good one, look after it, use it, and enjoy!

All in it's cost me about £15k over the years on my Ferraris, including depriciation. For me it's worth the money.

Haven't done any research, but i'm guessing 40k would get you a properly tasty F355, whereas a bottom to mid-range 360? Unless 355's just don't do it for you?
Just something to ponder...

That Diablo over the page is stunning, and if I had a budget that could stretch to 50K I'd take that. I'd worry about how fragile it could be though, but it's a stunning car in every aspect. I love the way the firing order is embossed on the engine cover.
