The brakes I'm not all that bothered about
They are what stops you, from you know, killing yourself and other people! They are the one component that you should be bothered about!
I don't mean they could fall off and I wouldn't care, I mean I wasn't surprised/irritated when they needed cleaning soon after I bought the car. The rear pads I was bothered about, because it sounded dangerous. Having the brakes cleaned after the car was standing for 3 weeks in a harsh winter wasn't anything to be bothered about though; I'm a mechanical disaster zone, but even I know that that does nothing for them!

Out of interest, have you thought of learning some basic vehicle maintenance?

Learning how to clean/replace brakes, how to service it, and so on?

Then these little "facts of life" wouldn't be such an issue.
