RE: Spotted: 2005 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

I personally don't like any of them, at a push i'd take the SLR, the SLS is just fugly, & the Aston is an old mans car. For less money, & more style, i'd take this.....

I think I'd have to agree with that. The SLR looks too close to the rest of the Merc family to be special.http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2843761.htm

Love the Alfa but no. Don't really know which I'd choose but leaning towards the SLS. As for 'One was built by McLaren', big deal. Mercedes, (and BM and Porsche and Ferrari etc etc), have far more successful motorsport experience than they do.
Oooh, tough dilema (in theory at least, cos in reality I can't afford either!).
Was never a fan of the SLR at launch. It never quite matched up to the appeal of the concept.
Plus, for it's original £330k, I was always disappointed that there were £140k AMGs which had similar performance (and a lot more torque!). I could never really see what you got for the extra £200k.
But now, for 'only' £150k, it would have to be a contender if I was thinking of spending over £100k on a supercar.

Kind of different beasts but...the Alf is undoubtedly beautiful..but the SLR is a monster..it would crush that Alf and I don't believe the SLS or the Vanquish S would be as close as people are saying...the super charged mid range power, the 50-120mph performance of the SLR would be in a different leaguehttp://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3152424.htm

I think on looks alone the SL65 Black is the best and meanest looking Merc of recent years and p!sses over both SLR AND SLS, although I think it is a little more expensive.
