It would be much appreciated if you could let me know the details of where you had your sills replaced? There is a hell of a lot of work to do otherwise, and for £200 it's not exactly a lot of money to get the car into good order.
Where you based? It was just a little local mobile bloke I used but he did a bang on job! Went from thisP3130220 by Jamie Firman, on Flickr

I am in Worcestershire, junction 2 M42. My sills look like the second of your pictures.....only a bit worse. P3130220 by Jamie Firman, on Flickr

These pictures were taken taken pre mot fail when the tester ripped them open with a screwdriver so did look worse before they got done, I would recommend calling round some local places and getting some quotes as it really isnt always as expensive as you thinkB.J.W said:

BJW, congratulations on your impulse purchase!I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm or indeed doubt the other poster, but if you can get the rust cut back and new rear sills welded in properly and panited as well, for £400 (I presume both sides need doing) then you are doing exceptionally well.
Post the details on the MX5 boards - the bloke will have more work than he can handle if that is his price.

If you only bought it yesterday from a trader then I'd be tempted to head back to where you bought it and hand it back: it's not quite the 'This car is in stunning condition and is a real credit to its previous owner.' in the advert, is it?firman said:

Trader in 'economical with the truth when describing a car' shocker. The rest of the car is in decent enough nick for the year - my fault for not having a closer look I suppose - but then if I had it wouldn't have been an impulse purchase take your point, but what I have parked on the drive is much better than what was parked on the drive.

Fair enough. take your point, but what I have parked on the drive is much better than what was parked on the drive.
These guys advertise a thorough fix:

The full process takes approximately one week to complete and costs between £ 250 to £ 600 per side (inclusive of all parts, materials) plus VAT, depending upon the severity of the corrosion.

Well, woke up yesterday morning and started looking at Zafiras on ebay/autotrader/Pistonheads (for the mrs), ended up driving home a few hours later after bit of 'what the hell'ing' with a 528i sport in black on a V plate - Not quite a Zafira but something I have always wanted - just hope it's not a "Don't meet you hero's" moment!

You will love it... look after it and it will look after you.B.J.W said:
That's really helpful. Worst case scenario that's £1200 of work for a car that's worth 2k - which is a lot. Likely that I could patch up and move on for a lot less........and then buy another MX5
Some ideas on who to do the work, which you've probably found already but heyho:http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7...
I have bought every single car without exception on a whim, research research research, shortlist then spot something completely off my shortlist, usually over budget and completely off spec and buy it!
Me and my dad have both bought several cars while popping to the shop for bread/milk etc!
Best way IMO!
