I'd say focus RS all day long. But be wary, they don't make any body panels for it anymore so if you have a small bump you're pretty much stuffded. A lot of parts are quite expensice to busy, generally reliable but running costs I bet will be higher than that of the civic.

Still the one though smile

My mate has a lightly tweaked Mk1 FRS, fantastic car... When it works.

Coolant/boost pipes split on a monthly basis, the car never boosts properly either. Very temperamental car.

Also, replacing the clutch with an uprated one turned into a 4 figure job!

I don't like the EP3 Type R, looks like an EP that crashed into Halfords with it's daft lights and grill but for fun daily hot hatch I think it's a much more suitable car. Driven one and personally not the biggest fan of vtec but can appreciate the appeal of them.

Sounds like a pup rather than representative of the model. Why did replacing the clutch become so expensive?!

i agree with you on that one. if they changed some of the body work on it i think it would look an awful lot better. i dont really like the look of back of them. interior isnt that great either.

The CTR's interior is a hell of a lot nicer than the Ford's and thats saying something.............

I had a EP3, and id probably say go for a Focus RS Mk1. I wanted one, but they were still well north of 10k at the time, and the Civic was cheaper to buy and run id imagine.

The only bad thing about the FRS is that interior it really is nasty. The dash, the seats the steering wheel. Ewwwwwwww.

Now if it was DC5 or FRS, it would be Integra everytime.

I'm not a real lover of turbo cars, but for me on this occasion i'd take the focus rs.

Its a bit more special, and likely to hold its price. When i see a focus rs, it stands out to me, where as the CTR is a bit meh in the looks department.

EP3 CTR's have came down a lot in price, you can get one for 3-4k, all be it a lesser example.

RS has better spec, rare and, with the right one when the diff is working its best, will be quicker, overall it will feel more special, or you could have a vtec screamer where you really have to work hard. I loved my old EP3, it just begged to be driven hard on country roads and took it all in its stride, never missed a beat. But in the end I still missed the turbo rush. If you go down the CTr EP3 route, get a geo fast road setup for better lift off oversteer and turn in, a hondata K100/pro remap to improve mid range and driveability, and lsd, she'll drive like the JDM versions then (which still demand far more).

As mentioned by others, don't over look Megane R26's if you can stretch to that much, its easy to overlook the french build as they drive very well for a fwd hatch, in a way they are the hothatch that Ford was trying to build with far better use of its diff. And then Ford made the RS Mk2...

Drive all 3.
