I may have missed it if people are being deliberately sarky and obtuse, but black and gold are the team colours of the only F1 Team to have official Lotus endorsement (and Sponsorship), and thus bear the Lotus badge, Lotus Renault GP, Confusingly Renault used to own the team, and won both drivers and constructors world championships in 2005 and 2006, but now have nothing to do with it except and a customer engine supplier. But some crazy contractual situation means the team can't ditch renault from it's name without forfeiting all it's TV rights money.

And the F1 cars have red mirrors as well as front and rear wing endplates, which is where this seven thousand quid paint job takes it's influence.
