Largest and smallest capacity for no. of cylinders
Discussion
Mitsubishi 3.2DID is a 4 cyl motor,Daimler made a 2.5 v8 and MG made a 1100cc 6 cyl engine back in the 30`s.(iirc it was fitted to a lightweight mg racer which achieved and still holds the world speed record for 1100cc engines @ 200mph).
there are a lot of oddball type configurations from back when bore size determined tax costs, lots of small capacity long stroke 6 cyl`s with pistons like thimbles.

660cc 3 pot probably is the smallest, up to that 1.3 cdti thing that vauxhall do? (think it's a 3 pot anyway).
There was also the Daihatsu Charade GTTi, which is probably up there for highest standard output - something like 100-130hp (but that might be completely wrong)

8 pot - smallest - 2.5 bike derived engine (guessing a bit), largest - some bonkers 7 litre Yank Tank?
Some current Corvettes have a 7 litre V8 - not quite a tank, but certainly a yank!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px_uZWmwKxM

The original Smart car had a 599cc 3 cylinder, and Smart car diesels are 800cc 3 cylinders.660cc 3 pot probably is the smallest, up to that 1.3 cdti thing that vauxhall do? (think it's a 3 pot anyway).
What's the capacity of the Ariel Atom V8 made from 2 bike engines?
It's not a production car but the Smart Roadster Brabus V6 was 1.4l, 2 roadster engines together to make a V6

Keijidosha or Kei cars to you lot. 1949 originally 150cc single cylinder 2 stroke cars Not very quick....or safe. The 1955 suzulight then with a air cooled two cylinder 350cc twostroke making 21HP.
after that you had a relaxing in the rules from 1995 to 550cc which is where you saw the increase to three cylinders and the 4 stroke became more popular 1990 you say the increase again from 550 to 660cc and this is where the japs really excelled by making tiny little forged engines as standard that were then either turbocharged or supercharged. they were really unstressed so you could buy a cheap car spend a few thousand on it and you can end up with something like I have.
a 708cc turbocharged cappuccino that when the turbo is on full boost its like "riding a bull on crack" thanks to 135hp at the rear wheels. Doesnt sound a lot but when your in a car that's got a 2m wheel base and is only 1.3m wide has a kerb weight of 725kg that package really starts to make sense.
