I guess they are, because the receipt total was less than the initial cost of the tyre.

The one from Kwitfit was an Arrowspeed. The one from ATS was a Riken.

There is nothing wrong with replacing one illigal tyre if the other tyres have plenty of tread, waste of money.

I'd be more worried if I only had 1 tyre that needed changing tbh.

I suppose if one had been replaced after a puncture and there was plenty of tread on the other(s), then yes. Otherwise, no.

The dealer my new car is coming from does. It will drive me nuts as its a FWD car and the front axle now has one new and one worn tyre - great. And, to top it the new tyre is a "Sunny".

Yes, new front tyres coming up.

If anybodys interested: Pure Nitrogen has larger molecules than normal air, which means that the air doesn't escape as fast (even a perfectly good tyre is not totally airtight), which in turn means that you don't have to check the pressure as often.
In another life, back in the last century biggrin , I was an aircraft Tech in the Royal Air force, and aircraft tyres were always filled with nitrogen for the same reason. Here in Germany, they charge €2 extra per tyre for a nitrogen fill instead of normal air, greedy bcensoreds

A single Sunny - he might as well have spit in your eye. Make sure you drive slow to the tyre place.

Technically yes, and yet no. Air is 78% nitrogen anyway.
http://www.getnitrogen.org/pdf/graham.pdf

They do it at Kwik Fit for the following reasons:

1. So they can charge you £1 more for 0.0001p of nitrogen
2. Because the reduced oxygen content marginally slows oxidation of the inside of the rubber and wheel.
3. So they can charge you £1 more for 0.0001p of nitrogen
4. Because Nitrogen has a lower coefficient of expansion than oxygen and CO2 (the remaining major components of air) and theoretically retains a constant pressure under different temperatures.
5. So they can charge you £1 more for 0.0001p of nitrogen

I live near said establishment. I won't say which one but it won't take a genius to work it out.

I cannot comment on their service but they often do burnouts in their own cars on their own car park. As in every weekend and the odd day during the week. Fair enough, I'm not too bothered but it's a residential area and the amount of noise and smoke is not really acceptable. They often have people coming out of their homes to see if it's a stolen car.

If anyone is near, have a look at the tyre tracks in the car park. That's all their own doing.

And then there is the dangerous driving on the residential street (30 limit). Wheelspins on the road at the end of each day are normal but the guy in the Sierra is going to have a big accident soon. I did actually film it as I've honestly never seen anything as bad. And everyone working that day came out and sat on the wall to watch their colleague and you're all on film.

I did go round to speak to someone in charge but that someone is one of the people involved. I was tempted to upload everything to Youtube and post a link here but someone would lose their job over it and at a minimum the police would be involved. It wouldn't be too hard to find out who I am if they saw where it was filmed.

The people that work at the one near me are obviously into their cars (and bikes and gokarts and everything else that is very loud and good for doing dounuts) and perhaps one of them is on here, or someone on here knows one of them? If so, calm it down a bit.

Interesting article: I haven't had to wade through stuff like that since I did my apprenticeship back then..nowadays I repair guitars and other stringed instruments for a living: The only things I have to deal with that're full of (hot) air are some of my customers..biglaugh

Last week I needed a new exhaust for my little Alfa.
Passing KF I called in and they phoned their suppliers, then quoted £346.
KF were busy as heck with their present offer so I was forced to go elsewhere, where the local place had the cheek to supply and fit it for £160.
The exact same part.
I feel bad that I was forced to take my custom away from KF and save myself a few bob.
