I just fill up until the click without looking at the number, no matter what I am driving the numbers are far too depressing for me to want to read them.
I fill up in £20 installments out of an irrational belief that i am making the Chancellor wait for his money just a little bit longer.Chrisw666 said:

I know what you men, I gave up looking at the numbers after the £ sign a long time ago and whenever the person at the kiosk repeats the amount in £ and pence to me I just nod and cringe at how much more it is costing than when I filled up pretty much the same amount just a few days before!stabbed rat said:

It's not too bad for me at the minute tends to be £75-80 in the Volvo once every 2/3 weeks and around £35 in the KA weekly. Chrisw666 said:

Im quite sad in some ways i have a little leather money bag thing full of change that i stash in the car, full of coins (about £30 worth at the moment, just had a refill) of all sorts so as i never get caught out at car parks
I keep a stash in what should be my ashtray; reached an alltime high recently of £3.82. Mainly kept so I can use the trollies at Aldi. Having a leather bag though is a bit ghey...I used to work in a petrol station and the amount of complaints we got about this was silly. People don't understand how the pumps work so are quick to have a go. Fact is, the more expensive the petrol becomes the harder to stop on a round number. I never understood why people didn't stop at 19.99 or whatever if the penny meant so much!

I keep it in a leather bag cos its thick and cushy so the car doesnt sound like a moneytin when it goes over speed bumps. When i get down to the £5 mark (which takes a very long time) then its time for a refill.grand-one said:
My local petrol station has recently had a full refit, and I have noticed that whilst everything is all shiny and new, its impossible to get the fuel price on the new pumps to land on an exact amount of £xx.00.
In other words if I try to put £20.00 in the car I end up on £20.01 and for £30.00 I end up on £30.01 and so on. I am led to believe that some fuel stations do this in the hope you will round up to the next pound and therefore put more fuel in. (Urban myth?) So much so that I decided to fill the car today and when I tried to stop at £50, got £50.01, same again at £60 - got £60.01 and so on.
Ive been there about a dozen times now and never yet got it to stop on a round number. So are we being ripped off or I am I just usless at putting fuel in?
Exactly the same thing at one of the local stations to me. Recently refurbed & ever since it is impossible to stop at XX.00 so I'm glad I've seen your thread because I was beginning to wonder if it was my imagination.
