Maybe slightly more left field and not vehicles I'm claiming as better than a 996, but some that are rare, look great, go well, cheap to maintain and run and have low depreciation. They are also likely easier to get in/out of than some of the other alternatives, comfy and have a large practical boot.

That's fine, but care to show me where you can get them for that kind of money? Or even alternatives of the same age/power/performance for £18k?

love the top 2, but the interior of that chevvy hurl

M3csl or 996tt would be my choices i reckon. new shape M3 if you're tending towards the more sensible but slightly less fun side of things. don't rule an evora out though smile

How and why? They as a rule tend to have very good depreciation.

Looks like some fun test drives ahead - CSL, 996TT... hopefully 1M. Those Mustangs look amazing, 600hp would be insane. I think the specialist is near my house in Byfleet so I may pop around for a look smile

Some nice options out there

Assuming this is your first sprog (so you have no clue how much ste you'll be carting around) and this is going to be the primary mode of transport for you and your's I would suggest that the 911TT/Evora etc. just arent going to have enough space TBH.

Something like an M3/M5/M6/C63/E63/CLS63 would certainly have the room, ample grunt and although offering a different performance proposition to your Elise would also be a lot safer for the little one than a few of the suggestions on this thread.

If you fancy something a bit more exotic then perhaps something like this Maserati Gran Turismo might fit the bill.

Of course if you're only talking about something that will be used occasionally for trips with the little one then the goalposts change... smile

You really need a proper 4 seater - a child seat is a squeeze behind a normal seat in anything smaller than a midrange car, and in a 2+2 it would be even tighter/impossible. Plus getting then in and out of back seats is a nightmare in a 2 door car.

Add Prams, changing bags etc, and the game changes again, and thats day to day stuff - go away for the weekend and you'll need another step change.

I'd deffo advise you to go for the faster panzer waggons.

Or if you want something more off the wall than fine - but bear in mind all the above.

What is the servicing like on the GranSport? I love the look (and sound) of them but I have heard it is brutal? Anybody with experience?

Not really after an Uber saloon, as stated we have a 5 series for normal child and A to B duties, this is to replace my fun car with something that the wife can drive (and the sprog can fit in if something goes wrong with the 5 series)

agreed. the cheapest you can get a 'newer shape' v8 mustangs (which are now 6 year old cars) is 15k. 50% depreciation over 6 years is pretty damn good on a 6 month old car. Muscle cars are a lot of things, fast depreciating is not one of them

I was worried about servicing and maintenance on any TVR, I am guessing it is as bad as they say.

Motion seconded.

Not a sports car but so much insanely effortless power, little else matters.

Keep seeing a W215 round here and it's ageing nicely; quite rare, too.
