I like the idea of him throwing in some autographs or something. Photo with the seller.

Maybe the seller thought it would be a hoot to see his old car on top gear and so agreed to let it go for a quid?
Yeah, I totally agree with this.

I remember him saying at the end that it would have cost the dealer upwards of £200 to scrap it. whereas, if he buys it for a quid, it saves the dealer £200 and he gets the car for cheap. Everyones a winner!

One quid's an absolute bargain. I used to love this car, wish we still had it. The only problem was that if you left it in the sun on a hot day, it would be scorching when you got back in. Those seats used to burn your backside.....

Yes. The Volvo was a px from a dealer. Therefore, previous owner won't have had any say over where the car went, and it is unlikely the dealer gave a crap who he was selling a car to. It's equally unlikely that Clarkson went and bought the car himself - more than likely a TG assistant did the buying.

a quid is just a nominal fee to make a contract legal

They might not like me in general because I'm quite young and made some silly remarks on the "stupid things not pistonheads say"

I saw that episode tonight, was pretty good.

I'm 19. Which puts me in the category of: Young, immature, bad driver, no experience and obviously making insurance premiums higher due to me crashing my corsa.

He is good friends with my boss who at the time was the manager of a big company with volvo dealerships. it was a P/X and he let him have it for a pound. So yes in short he bought it for £1.

Have we established how the car was acquired for a quid yet?

No, it definitely wasn't posted on the first page twice. I know because I read it.
