This is what's missing from rallying today, the WRC cars seem so sanitised

Yip, I've followed you over the back roads and sounds great. I love the sound of a V8 and still have my 928 to satisfy that part of me.Any cross-plane V8 is always appealing, but single cam pushrod ones like in muscle cars and Rover V8 TVRs are delicious, the bigger and more offbeat, the better.
Something like the Nelson Racing Engines 572ci normally aspirated Impala is about a perfect example, whether idling, pottering about at low speed in a high gear or being beasted. 750bhp & 750lb ft IIRC.
That or just about any V12. Favourites of those are the one in the Ferarri F50 and a Merlin, both of which I've experienced in the metal and both shake the bones out of you.

My current favourite: Jaguar XFR (Bonneville car) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa5ivpJwmIQ

I've read loads of these threads, and watched loads of these videos, but this one REALLY does it for me! Like a VTEC on some SERIOUS steroids!

I remember it well. It was a great run, in convoy with yourself, Clarkie in the Z4M, and the unlucky boy in the 996 Turbo.Hopefully should make it to another run later this spring and get to see your new toy.
Always happy to listen to a TVR V8 (ok ... might be a little bias here).
But ...
I think I would actually sell my soul to drive/ride in this and get to listen to THAT sound

I remember following the Ferrari F430 that day too, what a V8 sound. It more than made up for him overtaking me.
