Wannabe cops I reckon....likewise with those who stop right in the middle of flyovers going over motorways forcing people to slow down....just in case!
It's what I think. I got a right load of abuse on here for saying so last time though.

If you put them on your parcel shelf, it's very hard to see out of the back window because of the glow

Yes, it's become another piece of mandatory bling for the Essex horsey mummies and daughters. Goes with the RRS, handbags on elbows, orange skin and oversize sunglasses.

Stupid attention we s who've found yet another way to be "special" and show their wealth/debt off to everyone else.

If it wasn't for the blameless horse I'd be tempted to do something when driving past the wkers, but I don't.

They've just made hi-vis mandatory for us at work when moving the vans around the yard so I need it on in the morning and again when we finish in the evening. It's just easier to put it on when I leave the house and take it off when I get back. Probably looks a bit strange, especially if the roofs down hehe

Went past one of these wannabes today on the A1. A truck, two cars and a van had settled in behind him, he's sitting doing 60 in the inside lane, hiviz taking up the entire back parcel shelf (it was as if he'd wrapped the parcel shelf in a hiviz coat!) and a CB magmount aerial on the roof.

Thinking that the chances of plod running around in T reg Mk1 Focii are probably around nil, I nipped past and looked back to see the a big plume of diesel smoke from the back of the van I'd gone past as he nailed it, realising he'd been duped!

Generally (up north anyway) the biggest giveaway for an unwrapped plod is a GPS aerial on the roof, rear left hand side, about 6 ins in from the rear screen. The marked cars all have them, and every unmarked car I've noticed has as well.

I wear mine all the time when I'm in the van. It's just less hassle to put them on in the house before I go out and then when i've finished work, I'm in the van and gone!

I'm not going to waste time changing out of them, I like to get home as soon as I can.

Why does it make you a knob? It's a jacket, if you wear a hi-viz for work then whats the point in taking a second regular jacket just to keep people on the internet happy? It's British winter, so it makes sense to leave it on when you get into a cold car.

I'd agree there's something a bit odd about putting it on a parcel shelf though.

I know of somebody that drives round with their daughters police jacket hanging over the seat. Not quite sure what they are trying to achieve, it certainly doesn't impress and it's not even convincing in the old st box they drive.

Maybe they are quite nervous people and fear being 'confronted' in certain situations when out and about.

Hence they (wrongly) think the police hi viz will act as a deterrent?

(seriously)
Yes like me on a site visit, PPE gear (boots & thick socks, jacket, gloves, hat, glasses ect)

I have placed the jacket on the tono cover of my jag as the boot was full. Still could easily see out the rear window so I don't see a problem

Does it really matter what people have on when their driving, within reason! it's not like their doing anything dangerous

On a bike a high vis can only be a good thing

I sometimes have to do this. Suit for meetings and the next moment I need to have steel capped boots on. frown I also have a high vis jacket in the car, but no parcel shelf to put it on. frown (It sits behind the passenger seat).

It must be if it instantly brings the cabin upto temperature the second you get in the car. I must get one myself then i won't look like such a massive knob in my hi-vis jacket!

Mine is, it's got a preheater set on a timer so it's warm when I get in. Yes, you should buy a better car. wink

Wannabees, blatantly. I went out this morning wearing a suit. Took my jacket off and put it on the back seat. Didnt feel the need to put it on the parcel shelf and tell everyone else about it

On a related note, the reflection must be blinding at night

They tend to work better when driving with superfluous orange flashing lights.

The same dicks who have bright orange refelctive stickers all over their bikes too.

I keep my hi-viz vest and jacket in the boot of the car - they come out when I need to go on a site where it's mandatory. I'm another of those in a suit with hi-viz and steel toe capped boots.
