Redgate was a left hander, but clockwise.
'Took me a while (not recently) to work out where the 'jump' was.
That loop is still there but not used.

Really looking forward to this. There has been a bit of rumour about a return to racing for one or two cars, though it's never materialised. I'm seriously hoping one of the C & G W125 reps. will get out from time to time. Still one of the most awe-inspiring and fearsome motor vehicles of all time.

Does anyone know how many of these are privatley owned these days? I know Berine is supposed to have a couple, but thought almost all of the others were back with Mercedes and Audi.

I remember reading an article about 20 years ago on the w154 and have been captivated by the Silver Arrows ever since. For anyone else in a similar situation it is well worth digging out a copy of Chris Nixons excellent book Racing the Silver Arrows.

19 Mercedes survivors of all models - http://www.stasher.us/mercedes_survivors.html
5 Auto Unions in existence doubt over rebuilds though - http://www.stasher.us/auto%20union%20survivors.htm

And of course the rarest Silver Arrows of them all.

Paul Pietsch, at 100 the only surviving pre-war Auto Union Grand Prix Driver and old Grand Prix driver alive. Raced during the 1935 season (type B) , best result was 3rd at Monza.

2nd oldest is 96 year old former Mercedes driver Heinz Brendel. He took part in just the one race for the team in the 1937 German GP. Tested the Mercedes-Benz W125 during practice for the German GP 1937. Entered the German GP 1939 as fourth driver. He made a sensational practice session and started 5th on the grid. During the race he was asked to come in to give over the car to Lang but instead he continued and crashed. When he phoned for someone to pick him up, Neubauer replied that Brendel could start walking. That proved to be the only race of his GP career. Shortly after the race during a training session at Nürburgring, the saddle tank caught fire at Döttinger Höhe. Brendel just had enough time to steer into the low bushes and jump from the moving car, waking up the next day at hospital. He was nominated as reserve driver for the Swiss GP. After the war, Brendel raced an 1.1 litre Porsche.

The original Melbourne Hairpin is still there, beyond the current version. Tom Wheatcroft decided not to resurrect it as it is in Derbyshire and he wanted to avoid further planning issues by involving another authority.

Great bit of info supplied there, Thanks four whhel drift,

I have an old car mag from years ago with a story of a company based in Southern England (No address supplied)who were building an Auto Union from the orig drawings and pictures for AUDI and in the story there was a chap who rode from POLAND on his bycicle knocked on their door and asked for a job, which they thought was great timing as he could read the drawings and translate into Polenglish. I always kept that mag as I thought it was a great story but they also had pictures of the nearly complete car.

They did not give any ideas about the costings but they said AUDI would only finance 1 replica/new build.

I Saw a Merc at Silverstone go around befor the Grand prix approx 10 yrs ago it was not just the noise but the smell of the burning oil/rubber/fuel/alcohol/methanol, I will try and get to the revival as this is going to be something very special.
