Maserati for me, they look and sound fantastic. Never been a Porsche fan, no doubt they drive very well, but just do nothing for me.

The R8 is nice & I would have one, but next to a GranTourismo in black, no contest.

I'm struggling with a similar question, but with a slightly smaller budget. Having had my heart set on pork i'm wavering now

997.1TT - older/higher mileage than the others
Grantourismo - no idea how reliable these are as a daily
XKR 5.0 - another unknown quantity for me
GT-R - 6000mile service intervals
997 C4S - not a turbo, only marginally faster than what i've got now

I might just hang on for another year actually

£50k buys a LOT of Aston Martin these days.

Do you need backseats? If so then it's the Maserati or a Bentley GT.

Ragtop? 4.7 Vantage Roadster or DB9 Volante, Conti GTC, 360 Spider, Jag XKR.

997 turbo isn't even on my radar, but that's just me, no doubt they're incredibly fast (much like a GTR, also not of interest to me). I always like to keep a 911 at home, but it's never my 'top tier' car. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to drive it.

This. In a year a MY2012 Evora S should be comfortably in budget.

The Masser' is a gorgeous car, just depends what you want,
I would class an R8 as a fast road car, an the masser' as a tourer.
An the Porker is just.. a porker haha.

That's a tough choice. My missus would take the maser - no questions. As an ownership prospect for me, I reckon the R8, in a good spec / colour combo is the best choice followed by porker and Maser (reckon maser would loose most money in). Have you considered a Bentley GT? A couple of people I know have tried a few specials and after going for the Bentley swear they wouldn't go back. Even for such a big car it can still be thrown around if you want to be silly.

Thanks all, a year is a way off so I guess this is all purely academic for now, that plus the fact none of us truly know where values will be in 12 months and what else will be affordable come then (F430 possibly? Who knows...).
As mentioned Astons just don't do it for me.
Sagaris - After what will be 9 years TVR ownership I want something a little less raw, plus (and some may see this as a plus now) my wife won't drive the TVR and I want her to be able to drive my car at times.
Conti GT - I'm only 36 and I've heard real horror stories about maintenance costs on these. Coming from a TVR I'm not worried about a couple of grand a year to upkeep but the GT (especially the older ones I'd be looking at) would scare me.
For now though, the Maser and the R8 - I just can't decide between them.

+1

Love the Maserati. Simply a wonderful place to sit. Doesn't drive anywhere near as good as a M5 but the noise and looks are just stunning.

Would the wife be convinced by the "In a few years it will be worth £60k" scenario which a Sagaris would present? Seems like a good investment, and it wouldn't take too long to get used to but at the same time would be a lot different to your T350.

The R8 providing it was the V10, which that one in the photo is I think.

I do like the idea of the Maserati, it's a fatastic show piece. But they are all a bit like that. Showy but not special. I'd be looking at a 1m Beema or a (probably still too pricey though) CLK Black.
