Are they costly to run/service just at Nissan though? Not seen prices that specialists charge to be honest.
Probably the best in the business

Individual services are no more expensive than an M car for example.

It's just that (if you're me) you'd need to have it serviced every 4 months instead of once a year
Every 4 months!!!!!!!! I'm out...

Great car though...
If you only do 6,000 miles a year, you'll be ok smile

It makes me sad, though.

Nissan in depreciation shock.

Although loads of cars dump half their value in three years.
Cant see how a GTR cost £70k 3 years ago, more like £52000. So its not nearly as bad is it?
The sentence starting "although" was in counterpoint to the first sentence ie - other cars depreciate more than that particular Nissan.

Car would be a daily driver - Would have been a cheaper alternative to the R8. Not anymore....

Once i pack the 9-5 in and concentrate 100% on the side business me and the wife run. I cant envisage me doing 10-12k miles a year anymore, but 6k would be covered pretty quick. I'll probably be out driving the damn thing whilst she does all the work!

I can carry on dreaming though!

Depends - Average 16/17Mpg. In the snow the other day at 60mph I did nearly 25. On a hoon you're into single figures.

Hmm , Nissan loosing 20k in 3 years and equivalent Porsche loosing 40k in the same time, did you eat your greens today ?
I can't see the connection between my diet, the tightness of Porches and the depreciation of Nissans.

I looked seriously at buying one. I was put off by the reputation for ruinous running costs and (admittedly small) potential for an exploding gearbox and subsequent 10 grand bill.

Having already owned one ruinous jap weapon (which was, to be fair, spectacular and I loved it), I decided against it.

That's not bad bearing in mind single figures are achievable FFRS

It has to cost you somewhere though doesn't it.

Any car that can do <3 sec 0-60 and <8 sec 0-100 should really empty your wallet at every opportunity just for the fun of it. wink

I think they are fabulous machines. But I'd never consider buying a used one out of main dealer warranty. Yet I would buy the older models such as the 34, 33, 32. I get the impression the latest model is simply too complex, expensive and fragile. Whether my impression is correct remains to be seen. But the thought of those bills means I'd never buy one. I doubt I am alone.

I think i would probably count myself among them, since I would define a supercar as such based on it's, erm, performance smile

It has everything a supercar needs other than the badge.

Performance.
Handling.
Road presence.
Pedigree.

Could get an independant warranty on it though. Should cover things like the potential gearbox issue.

How many Caterhams would you consider supercars?
