grrr I was only looking at one of these the other day, lovely thing it is. I'm trying to talk myself out of the idea, I've been avoiding the Jag forum for that reason then I find this thread in GG smile

I tried one before i bought my last car. Nice cars, decent go, I quite like the looks, decent enough interior but the whine off the supercharger would put your head away.

Nice cars, but does the auto box on these not sap a catastrophic amount of power? I'm sure Vixpy mentioned on a thread they only make ~270bhp at the wheels. If that is the case then a remapped hot hatch is going to give about the same level of performance...

I've owned one for 6 months and the initial thrill you get from putting your foot down is unreal.

The car handles very well around the back roads at speed and the motorway cruising is exceptional.

However the costs do mount up both at the pumps and in repairs. I've just spent nearly £600 on brakes, another £500 on service, cam cover gasket and a replacement cooling system pipe. Add this to the cost of 4 tyres and it makes me think that I wish I'd never bought it.

Of course the things I've mentioned are mostly wear and tear so buy the right one and it may cost you nothing.

Unfortunately mine has to go and having spent around £7000 after purchase and repairs I'm practically giving it away. So if you do go for one then e sure to know you'll likely get very little back when you sell.

Still the noise the supercharger makes will always make me remember it fondly!!

Good luck

Well ours is a 2007 Facelift
only had 19k on the speedo when we got it
drives a feels like new.
I can and will do work on my own cars where at all possible
we previously had an SLK and Land Rover Discoveries
we also read horror stories about all of them
none came to fruition though.
It is only metal/glass/plastic and rubber
not a machine of mystery.
We never buy cars with view to depreciation
as that is an accepted part of owning anything material.
I considered an RS4 previously and test drove the 4.2v8 version
the Jag feels and is better suited to us and reading the Audi forums
spending on RS4s isn't an uncommon experience.

Every car will suffer power losses through transmission. Look at how much bhp a 4 wheel drive system eats up.

I don't see many hot hatches capable of hitting 60 in just over 5 seconds - particularly not any that weigh two tonnes!

Thats a pretty catastrophic transmission loss if it's true! God, thats shocking.

I'd call bullst on that. I've been in some fast metal and these are very very quick cars, especially for their size. 0-60 is for children, these things pull like a train all the way to 155 (Or allegedly 174 if you slip the J-Gate into 4th to bypass the limiter, but I wouldn't know of such things).

What hot hatches make 270 at the wheels?

If these really do make the sort of power they should they should be an awesome gentleman's express. What a shame it never came with a Spanish box.
