Great to look at these pics.

I love a good scrap yard - something dream-like about them - looking at cars that have lived a life.

Snapping back the real world, I remember back in the late 1980s wanting some new seats for my Hillman Avenger (oh yeh!) - the guy at the scrap yard pointed to one balanced on top of two other cars and said help yourself - how times have changed - I think such a health and safety breach would make the 10 o'clock news these days.... needless to say the seats were great and cost a fiver IIRC.

I wish we still lived with sensible H&S policies like that.

When it was totally upto yourself to think for yourself and assess the potential for injury/death and act accordingly.

Not expect someone else to wipe your arse^Hdo all the thinking for you.

I was looking for a scrapyard down near me (Maidenhead) the other week as I wanted to go and take some pictures. I couldn't find any decent looking ones on Google so I may go and check out the one mentioned above, unless anyone else knows of one my way?

Yes, although they make it look very easy. They also get bonus points for including the labour in their costs (unlike Wheeler Dealers).

Me too, it's my latest guilty pleasure. It does brush over a lot of detail (not many "spanner shots"), I prefer wheeler dealers for that

I would love to have a wander round that desert scrapyard with my camera, I find stuff like this really interesting.

I had to find a pair of front seats for my sisters car a couple of years back and you'll both be pleased to know I had to climb over a couple of cars to climb up into a precariouly balanced car to remove them thumbup

That's the puppy, to be honest I have only been in once when I was 15 (I'm 37 now!) but I can remember it was massive, still drive past, must think of an excuse to have another poke about...

That's Rush Green http://www.rushgreenmotors.com/home.htm
Still lots of really old lorry's there but hardly any old cars anymore most of them are fairly modern.
My dad worked there in the sixties and lots of the lorry's he parked up are still sitting in the same position now!

I thought 'proper' scrap yards had been banned in the name of needing to drain all fluids, provide resold parts off a shelf and recycle the rest. I'd have thought ebay's the end of the 'proper' scrapyard if the EU isn't.

Shame because there's nothing quite like choosing your part, seeing it in situ, removing it, and getting all the clips/brackets/fasteners and pipes as well.
