Precisely! I'm fairly low down the pecking order driving 'a car that's worth more than my bosses'.

No... it's not. By an awful lot.

I employ the reverse psychology...went for promotion and payrises in two different workplaces and was turned down on both occasions so thought sod it, I'll show you and went out and bought a Lotus Elise, which really pissed off the boss of a Christian school that was big on humility. At the other place I went out and bought a Lotus Evora, partly to say well, I can be successful and have what I want, with or without you. You never know...in order to be successful, one has to project the image of success.

No, but it certainly made me feel better, particularly when an an ally of mine on senior management told me the boss had asked everyone at a meeting as he looked out of the window...."whose, is THAT?!!!!".
